You Know, Tony M.'s RAP Really Isn't All THAT BAD

.

Sure it's an indication of the times, and dates each of the albums that it appears on. But his style and attack really hits as hard as NWA or public Enemy, while he skips along with the beat as well as Treach from Naughty by Nature or Run DMC. And he's far better than Eve.

I agree as far as the rap style.. he wasnt all that bad..

but I never felt Prince should have jumped in on the cameo by rapper bandwagon..

He just doesnt need it.

eek Like Mozart, beethoven and Frank Zappa, there seems to be very little middle ground with Tony M. You either love him or hate him. eek

I happen to like Tony M. I don't see what what so terrible about his voice. It was strong and flowed well with P's musical style back then.
At least he doesn't sound like he's whining or talking like jay Z (although i do like some of his songs boxed) or on a rant like Eminem.
But I also happen to love hip hop and rap.

I've never had a problem with Tony M either , I even like the Goldnigga album , No black MF in the house , Johnny , 2gether , cool songs . Its probably all dependent on when you got into Prince , before or after 1990 , as to whether you abhor Prince's rappers ( and his own rapping ) or whether its a fine addition to his musical canon.
Check out Chocadelica , updated with Lotusflow3r and MPLSound album lyrics April 2nd 2009 :

I've been into Prince since 1984. I was getting into hip hop at the same time. In '84, hip hop was coming alive and getting into the mainstream and I loved it. So the two combined together just is a nice combination for me. And I don;t even mind Prince rapping. He has a sexy voice and doesn't sound like he's trying too hard. It just flows.
