Purple Rain anniversary disc 2

I got an itch to watch some P.R. stuff last night and decided to watch the P.R. 2004 disc 2 last night. This is an awesome disc to watch. To see some of the emotions from some of the peeps interviewed is great. I love the conversatin with Lisa and Wendy. About how Wendy thought Prince was at the top of his creativity when he wrote The Beautiful Ones. I liked how they remembered the lady outside the warehouse crying when the rehersed P.R. They were calling her the P.R. lady and wondered what happened to her.
Great stuff! I really like this disc, and thought it gave us a nice insight into what others thought about when this historic event was going on.
I noticed that everyone was interviewed except Brown Mark. What happened to him. He could have finally had is voice heard. biggrin

Anyhow, what are your comments on this set?

When they interviewed Albert Magnoli, he broke down in tears when discussing the scene where Prince and his dad were in the basement by the piano. This caught me a little off guard, but the more I thought about it, the more I realized that when u direct a movie, the scenes u direct really do stay with u, and 20 years later he still feels that scene.

The other part I really thought was cool was when Wendy played the chords 2 Purple Rain on her guitar and later confirmed that they "helped" write the song.

i just watched this for the first time the other day there.
That part with Albert Magnoli nearly crying was amazing. eek
He nearly had me started too.
To be honest he really did do a fantastic job...you could say he peaked with Purple Rain aswell.
Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!
woot!

I thought this CD was very fascinating. To learn about First Avenue, about the battle of the bands, how the movie came together was great.

I was touched by how much Jimmy Jam spoke so highly of Prince, however I get the feeling Terry Lewis doesn't really respect Prince as much. I don't why, I just get this weird vibe from him.

I just watched this again a couple of nights ago, but this time with the commentary.
I really enjoyed them discussing how it all came together.
Also, I realised how good Prince's acting was during the intense scenes with his 'dad'(with the commentary on, the klunkly dialogue didn't distract as much from some of the gut-level performances).

An example of one the commentary details that I like;
Jerome's "That was really fucked up what you did" scene originally intended for Morris, but they couldn't find him that morning.

I've mentioned this several times on here before this disc was even released. I'm proud to state that I'm on camera at the premire. I was 15 at the time and I'm in about 6 different shots. Go to the MTV Afterparty on the disc, Mark Goodman will cut to the footage of when P and everybody is arriving at Mann's Chinese. I'm wearing a white headband, white ruffled shirt with a black trench type coat and white gloves! I'm in the shots with Appollonia, Stevie Nicks, Eddie Murphy and Prince. A few folks on here have seen this and they'll tell u, all of the mods can attest to this, that I was describing what I had on when talk of the disc was going to be released and to look for me.

It took a lot of zooming in and pausing on my DVD player but I finally found you. Wasn't the premier about a week before the movie opened in the theaters? You were definately lucky to have lived in that area during that time. I remember the night of the premier also. I was sitting at home listening to the radio and Morris Day gave one of our local DJs a phone interview on the air. I was hyped up all the next week waiting for the movie.

On a different note,

how funny is it seeing Charlie Murphy in those shots with Eddie biggrin

I kept wondering if that was before or after the pancakes lol
