Not necessarilly the fans, but someone has to pay for it. Why do you think that Ryan Seacrest has one?

Actually, I just looked it up. It's $15,000; not much at all.

Prince doesn't need a star. Dude is plenty famous & beloved.

I mean...is the honor of having your name on the same sidewalk with the likes of Ryan Seacrest worth $15,000?

A waste, IMO.

An often asked question here. Apart from stumping up the cash, you have to guarantee the celebrity will turn up for the ceremony, which as fans you can't do with Prince. The only way he'd get a star is if he arranged it himself, and when you realise that it is a total publicity stunt ego-trip, you have to admire Prince for NOT having a star.

Does MJ and Madonna have a star?

Michael has one.I remember when they gave him a star.It was in early 1984 at the height of the "Thriller" madness.Saw it on the news back then,it was sheer pandemonium with thousands of screaming fans.

I don't know if Madonna has a star.I'm sure it would have been a huge media event if she had gotten one.

In the early 90s,one of the Prince fan clubs (I think it was Controversy?) was trying to get a star for Prince...raising the money and everything.I don't know what happened with their efforts.

Here's some FAQs from the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce's website www.hollywoodchamber.net

Walk Of Fame Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How can I nominate someone for a Walk of Fame Star?
A: Click here for an application -- or you may send us a self-addressed stamped envelope to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce at 7018 Hollywood Blvd., Hollywood, CA 90028

Q: Who can do the nominating?
A: Anyone, including a fan, can nominate a celebrity as long as the celebrity or his/her management is in agreement with the nomination. If there is no letter of agreement included from the celebrity or his/her representative, the committee will not accept the application.

Q: What is the cost of a Walk of Fame star ceremony?
A: $15,000 upon selection. The money is used to pay for the creation and installation of the star, as well as maintenance of the Walk of Fame.

Q: Can I nominate someone who doesn’t fit in any of the five categories?
A: No. The categories do not change and the nominee must be or have been active in the field of entertainment.

Q: How long after someone has been nominated will the ceremony take place?
A: The recipient has up to five years to schedule their ceremony. If it is not done within the five-year period, it will expire and an application must be resubmitted.

Q: Does the committee accept signatures/petitions/phone calls?
A: The committee does not accept signatures, phone calls, e-mails, or any form of petitions for a nomination. Only official Walk of Fame applications are accepted.

Q: Who are the members of the Walk of Fame selection committee?
A: Each of the five categories is represented by someone with expertise in that field.

Q: How often are stars voted in?
A: Stars are voted in once a year in June. An average of 20 stars are selected per year. Click here to view a list of the stars chosen for 2006.

Q: If a nominee isn’t selected during the voting process, do I have to re-submit the application for the following year?
A: The application is effective for two years. If, after two years, the nominee is still not selected, the applicant can file a new application or send a letter requesting that the application be reinstated. Updates on the recipients are accepted and included in their file.

Q: When does the Committee meet:
A: The Committee meets once a year, in June.

Q: How can I find out if someone has a star on the Walk of Fame?
A: You can find star locations on the Chamber's website.

Q: Can I attend a Walk of Fame ceremony?
A: Walk of Fame ceremonies are open to the public. There is a public viewing area set up for all to enjoy. Please be aware that ceremony dates are subject to change. Call the Walk of Fame information line (323-469-8311) or check our website for verification.

Q: How many nominations are submitted each year?
A: The committee receives an average of two hundred applications a year.

I totally respect Prince for not setting this up himself - that would be a total ego-trip. And we as fans spend enough money on Prince stuff, I think.

Universal, on the other hand, could use this as a great opportunity to advertise 3121. Imagine if they set it up with Prince so he received the star, performed a few songs on a stage set up on the street (some new tracks, along with the obligatory Baby I'm A Star), followed by a press-invited show at 3121, at which the tour dates are announced. Can't get a much better 3121 promotion than that...
