This album is really growing on me. Initially I thought it was good, if a little bit sterile. But the more I listen to it, the more I like it (like all the best albums). '3121' is an incredible opener, the best for years. 'Love' sends shivers down my spine. 'The Word' is Prince at his most poignantly spiritual. And there are NO weak tracks.

So, after an inital twinge of disappointment, this album is exceeding my expectations. Bring on the UK tour.

ok seriously. is this leak a planned thing or what? i know everyone's heard the album already, just about, but do we know if the leak was officially sanctioned? hmm

No offense GoldenGlove, but you did it to yourself. I think you may have built this album up too much in your mind. But I believe you said this was Prince's first new release since you became a fan, so that excitement may be understandable.

But all the touting of this "masterpiece," the letter writing campaign to get "Fury" released as the next single (without ever having heard the studio version), etc., etc.....you just set yourself up for disappointment.

3121 isn't spectacular, but it's a cool little album. Once your initial disappointment wears off you'll probably start to enjoy it more.

3121 was one of your favourite albums before you'd even heard it. Owned.

falloff That's so wrong but so funny.
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

It's a really good album, the only song I don't like is "the Word". I only have 10 of the songs. I'm missing "Love" and "Get on the boat", which gives me something 2 look 4ward 2 when it's released. Still, I like "Musicology" better than this album.

1. Doesn't break any new ground
2. The studio version of Fury is shit compared to the propper version.
3. To much poppy pappy crap.
4. There aren't any classics
5. Not a single GREAT song (Although fury had the potential to be)

Don't get me wrong, it's still a god album and hopefully it will grow on me, but i was expecting a classic after all the great reviews.

Prince maybe u could do up fury before the release? confused

?????

Don't tell me that we put up with 25 new threads a day started by you over the last three weeks begging us to e-mail radio stations and record company executives to promote this album only to hear now that YOU are disappointed in it??

No,it's a fresh pop/funk album, something some of us were hoping
4 but didn't expect anymore.I'm surprised and pleased!

I'm not disappointed at all, P has finally made strong move away from the jazz-fusion he has been doing lately (I loved that 2).I welcome da pop/funk. I was expecting more from 'Fury' & 'Satisfied' since being exposed to them live, but nothing compares to Prince live, so I'm glad I have the SNL Fury live version on mp3 - iPod baby! I can't stop listening to the title track....this joint (3121) could go on for 10 minutes as far as I'm concerned (hope there is a long version coming out soon).....2 funky....I love it! Nice mix on 'The Dance' as well...interesting. The more I hear, the more I'm lovin the album 3121!

I know its abit cruel but a huge bloody grin spread over my face when I saw who has started this thread! hahahahaha.

Sorry but like people say, you set yourself up for it. I think I was abit lucky that NEWS was the first album that came out when I was a Prince fan, therefore I was expecting something shite (after being browbeaten with other peoples opinions and so on!) and I really love it.

But jeez, the irony of this is going to keep me laughing all day. Thanks alot for cheering me up!

No not disappointed at all, I think it's a solid pop effort, very enjoyable. I would have liked an album that would be more "far out" but this is already more than I had expected. Thanks Prince!

No, it's not officially sanctioned, there would be no benefit to the record company leaking it 2 weeks early, certainly not in its entirety. If they'd wanted people to have a taster they could just have put some samples up on an official website. It's just a case of someone got hold of a pre-release CD and uploaded it to file sharing networks - it only takes one upload, it then gets spread like a virus from people sharing it.

No I love it !!! smile

What new ground needs to be explored ?
He has created and founded so many things in popular music the lines kind of blur from what is new and what is something he helped pioneer. He is sounding even more Prince like than the Prince of late, he is writing and singing sexily, he's rocking hard, sounding sultry, acting sassy and all the things he kind of dropped from his music and lyrics of late, nice to have him getting back to the Prince I recognise and love.

Check 'Lolita' - 'The Fury'- 'Incense And Candles'- 'The Word'-'The Dance' they tick all the boxes of classics in the genre they are written and I think thats always been Prince's strong point. He can immerse himself in a style then write a song in that idiom, look how different on D+P 'Strollin' - 'Get Off' - 'Willin' An Able' - 'Insatiable' - 'Cream' . . Critics say its too eclectic but really it shows an artist too good for the 'so' called POP idiom.
As a musician I have always liked that about him, if he produced hit after hit of similar sounding stuff I woulda left him years ago.

A Prince album always grow on you and this will grow on all true Prince fans I am convinced !!

Welcome back to Prince, Prince !!
