There has always been division amongst Prince fans about his new albums Imagine if was 1986 and Parade had just been released. You cannot tell me that we wouldn't all be bitchin' back and forth with each other about the quality of the work.
Hell, I doubt we'd all be cool about Purple Rain. You someone would be shouting "Prince sold out!!!". "Sign 'O' the Times"? People would have dissed the camille voice, the religion in The Cross, and vain andy would have yelled "Too retro!" Prince fans (and critics) have always been divided in opinion about how good his "new" albums are. Ask vainandy how he felt about "Around the World in a Day" Hell, I remember when "Diamonds and Pearls" was new Prince. Can you imagine the uproar that that thing would have caused on this website. You think people don't like Larry Graham-people would have called for Tony M.'s head to be cut off. Anyways all things considered I hope you all are (or will be shortly) having fun listening to or complaining about the new album It's friday and I think I am gonna break down and listen to 3121 early. You're right, all Prince's albums are masterworks and it's only because of the internets that people are dissing on 3121. It couldn't possibly have anything to do with the quality of the music.  No hard feelings. | |

Nobody will ever be completely happy with a new Prince album. I hated ATWIAD when it was first released. I was 15 so I could not fully get into the album. I was expecting Purple Rain 2 just like everyone else. Here it is 21 years later and I listen to it 4 or 5 times a week.
Prince has only himself to compete with. The current music playing on the radio or tv has only so much life to it. I can only hear "Check on it" so many times then I want to kick the tv in. We're all critics twards Prince we have that right. But in the real world its Prince VS Prince. I truly feel that he dosen't care what we think. A musician can only re-invent themselves so many times. Sure I'd love to hear everything from the vault but I'm happy that he's still recording music. This is my 4th day listening to 3121 and I love it. Maybe some day I'll love NPS who knows?? "The little 1 will escort u 2 the places within ur mind" | |
