4? there's only 2 that i know of--the rehearsal version and the joint from first ave. '83. | |

It is by far the most talked about Prince outtake ever. I get a kick out of reading about newbies discovering this song. Personally, I tend to skip it now because it's this lusty ballad and you have to be a certain mood, but when I first discovered it I was floored for several months. [Edited 2/23/06 16:41pm] | |

i've heard at least 4 versions myself -- one real long one
maybe a couple are cleaned-up edits of the originals?? | |

At least 4 circulating, I think.
From memory, there are three rehearsal versions and the live performance that followed at First Avenue, all 1983. ALT+PLS+RTN: Pure as a pane of ice. It's a gift. |

i seem to reacl that threre are 2 and the other to are fan mixed/edited... but there is the one where he yells
"wake up wendy" (the rehersal) and the one from 83 where he also recorded most of purple rain (the song) | |
