Black Sweat - Discuss the *SONG* here [Discuss Black Sweat the song here. All other threads will be locked and redirected here]
Ok, listen up people. The other two threads were crammed full of begging and pleading requests to hear the new songs. Due to legal concerns we have had to lock those threads up and start afresh. Please, we ask you nicely once again - DO NOT publically ask for boots on this website. Persistant offenders will find themselves looking at temp bans. (I'll be online all day and watching like a hawk...just so you're all aware) So please guys, help us out here - we don't like having to get all heavy, but the point must be made firmly. We WILL adhere to it if we have to. This thread should only be used for discussion of the song: Do you like it? Love it? Hate it? In the middle? The previous mess that resembled a 'Black Sweat' sticky once, can be found here: http://www.prince.org/msg/7/176244 Serpan99 has kindly posted pictures of the artwork etc for the new singles HERE I'm collecting 'Black Sweat' threads, (it's my new hobby), start one and we'll gladly lock it and redirect it here 1) http://www.prince.org/msg/7/176237 2) http://www.prince.org/msg/7/176228 3) http://www.prince.org/msg/7/176242 4) http://www.prince.org/msg/7/176163 5) http://www.prince.org/msg/7/176248 6) http://www.prince.org/msg/7/176280 7) http://www.prince.org/msg/7/176283 8) http://www.prince.org/msg/7/176347 9) http://www.prince.org/msg/7/176348

the beat is SO 'nasty girl'/'bob george'
the melody is kinda 'tick tick bang' the wave machine is a bit out of fashion, but at least he didn't use the term "fo' shizzle" in the lyrics.

I still haven't listened to it. I gotta hit the Googs... If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

Will discuss once I've cleared speculation status...[Don't test me - BananaCologne] "3123...that's next door to where the party be..."

I think Prince is back with two attractive and commercially strong songs, I can totally understand that Universal believes in this material and is giving it major promotion.
Black Sweat is the minimal club track and Beatiful, Loved and Blessed is a funky R&B track. They are both good IMO and I think they fit in well with today's popular music. If both two songs fail to become a hit I fear Prince will never have a hit again. Not that would really matter to me, but this is just how I feel when hearing these two tracks. RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

Its not bad, better than I had expected. I don't know that either of them are "hits" necessarily. To have a hit these days requires a chorus, or some kind of hook, that a giggling halfwit 6 year old girl might be amused by ( I give you "My Humps" ). "Don't hate me cos I'm beautiful"

I don't think I'm ever gonna go batshit over a P song again, there's just no way any artist can stay that mind-blowingingly inventive for this long. Even though I love Aerial, it's really just Kate Bush just doing her same old thing, just doing it really well. That's about all I want out of Prince, and this track more than fulfills that. Call it apeshit.

4 real? I was thinking more early 80's Prince with a new school touch to it.

4 real? I was thinking more early 80's Prince with a new school touch to it. I like both songs a lot...Black Sweat with promotion from Universal will no doubt be a hit. I don't think of either Bob George or Nasty Girls either other than the claps. Someone else said it earlier the song is his sound/style with a bit of 00 flair for the kiddies. There are songs out there like this personally for me glad to see Prince taking his sound back and doing it better than the copy cats. Its not as urgent or frenetic as Madonna's "Music" (although close) but it's in that vein. And "Music" would be a perfect example of an artists taking his sound and style. There are others that weren't done quite as well Brittany and "Slave for You". Others have done it very well including D'Angelo, Bilal, even Maxwell. Of course Prince is/was so diverse we are talking about a lot of sdifferent sounds and styles but they still apply Dance... Let me see you dance

Ditto. Since this edited version (proposed) is almost all electronic instruments (drums, bass, Keys) I'm thinking the extended or album version is gonna breakout into some crazy funk jam with live instruments. Kinda like he use to. Kiss, I Wish U Heaven, that kind of vibe. Fantasy is reality in the world today. But I'll keep hangin in there, that is the only way.

I think Te Amo is partly responsible for the interest in Black Sweat. People want desperately to know that the rest of the songs from the album aren't similarly lame. "Don't hate me cos I'm beautiful"

I'm honestly shocked at the amount of people who are praising this song. The first time I heard it I found it horrible, now it's kinda growing on me (especially the falsetto) but still, it's nothing spectacular in my opinion. "How embarrasing to be human!"

Man I'm in the minority around here cause I like Te Amo. It's nothing ground breaking or earth shattering but thats OK. I like it's chilled out vibe, especially the strings. But I wouldn't want a whole album of that. I'm hoping 3121 will be diverse but with strong material. If Te Amo and Black Sweat are any indication then I'm not worried. Fantasy is reality in the world today. But I'll keep hangin in there, that is the only way.

Oh my, it's fonkey!!!
The only 'annoying' thing is P giving 'comments' on his own song in the background. Mmm...and while i'm typing this, the song kinda self-destructs near the end All of a sudden I have 'Undisputed'-nightmares. Whhhhyyyyy??? Guess i'll be wanting an extend version of the first two minutes Anyway, hopefully it's an indication of things to come, 'cause it's def. in the right direction.
