Has anyone ever seen Vanity 6/Apollonia 6 open for Prince?

I'm just wondering if anyone has been to a show where the sexy ladies opened for Prince. What was it like? Did you find it degrading? Embarrasing? Sexy? Does anyone have a first hand experience?

I was looking at Per Nelson's book again and noticed an Roy Bennett (Brenda's husband) said "The straight guys out in the audience were going nuts and they appealed very much to the gay crowd too. There were catcalls and stuff, so it was kind of tough to take."

I saw a show of Vanity 6 once and the guys were so LOUD! It was like non stop hooting and hollaring. And when I first saw Purple Rain and the girls sang Sex Shooter I was thinking "OMG they are like singing strippers! No wonder this is rated R!" I always thought Prince watching the strippers dance while his father played music must have inspired this a little. wink

Aaaaaah. Sure, no problem. I saw Vanity open for the Kid the night after my 14th birthday on March 28, 1983 in L.A. I was pissed cuz The Time, who I had already seen open for the Kid on the Rude Boy tour, got booted off this bill cuz P was afraid of getting upstaged. V6 was cool though. Typical early 80's risque type shit. But Vanity was FINE AS HELL. The band members of The Time played behind this huge fishnet curtain, so it was hella funky. Much funkier than the album cuts. I saw V6 again later in Long Beach on the same 1999 tour. Pretty much same thing. Color by numbers routine.

Wierd recollections here... of my first three Prince concerts.

I was a High School Student (Sophmore) in 1981 and the my Journalism Teacher had a plan to send me (as photographer) and my girlfriend Lisa as a reporter to the Stones concert. The plan was to rush the pictures back to him in time for him to print the issue for distrubution that next morning (a Friday).

We were giddy with excitment and I remember that we got it for either a high grade or attendance. Sadly there was one hitch.. to meet the deadline we had to leave the concert early... like after the 4th song.

I think yall all know what we ended up seeing (L.A.) was this guy... Prince get booed off of the show. I remember hating it too ( i was a red necked rocker at the time). So, basically I am actually guilty of shouting at Prince. Funny cuz...

.. my senior year I see these people walking around with these shirts on... incidentally me and my parents moved to Texas. The shirts had this writing ironed on the back "I was dreaming when i wrote this so forgive me blah blah blah." I had missed the concert, didnt really know who Prince was other than the guy that dressed like a queen onstage.

i saw my sister that weekend in Dallas and she took me to the 1999 tour... i loved it ans did indeed see Vanity 6...

then by new years eve 1984 i was living and going to college in Dallas and had tickets to several shows (Davis Bowie serious moonlight was one of them) but I saw the Purple Rain show with Appolonia 6 then. I remember, as i did not become a true fan until this point, thinking that A6 was not as good as the first time i saw them and that the lead singer was fatter? Of course the truth be told later i would realize they were different lead singers.

the purpose of this story was that all the time i think of how fast Prince's fortunes had changed in those 3 years. I was forever changed and now it is I that screams like a little girl the consecutive 18 or so other times I see him.

LOL my wife was 5 years old the first time i saw him. wowza i'm old
I may have the jelly 4 ur peanut butta but u got 31 hours and 21 minutes left.

That is how I remember Vanity from the concert I saw when I was 12 years old. Vanity basically on stage with an outfit that revealed everything.
