Michael Koppelman Podcasts

i made a post a while back with a link to some stuff written by michael koppelman, prince's engineer from 1990-1992. it was mainly about prince working with kate bush and makes pretty interesting reading.

anyhow, koppelman has done a large number of podcasts during the past year that cover a whole load of topics but two of them focus on his time with prince. i thought that some of you may find them of interest.

i've left a link to his website where you can hear them, although i found these podcasts on iTunes by accident having not checked his web site for a while.

The podcasts are Podcast's numbers 9 & 10 near the bottom of the page

I've interviewed Michael and he's a pretty cool guy. Much of his interview ended up in UPTOWN and the UPTOWN books, but some of it is saved for a project I am working on regarding Prince's studio sessions.

He's got some great info about recording Ingrid's album and other stuff from that era.

Looking at his list, he seems to lean a LOT to the left politically, but you can't hold that against him... too much! lol
The expanded version of my book PRINCE and The Purple Rain Era Studio Sessions 1983-1984 was released in November 2018. (www.amazon.com/gp/product/1538114623/ref=dbs_a_def_rwt_bibl_vppi_i0) or www.facebook.com/groups/1...104195943/

Excellent - you are pursuing it.

Are you still considering its wider commercial potential - or is it just for personal interest at this stage? Whichever way you go - good luck with it.

I am still working on it. Slowly and trying to accurately convey all the information of his studio sessions. Obviously it is a huge task and requires a lot of research. I don't expect anything out any time soon as I can't even find time to transcribe some of the interviews that I've conducted. I have dozens of tapes that are sitting around asking to be transcribed! lol

I'll keep everyone informed when it comes to being released. I"ll probably be asking for help from anyone on the org who knows details about Prince's studio sessions as well.

Thanks for this, always enjoyed reading Michael's stuff, very interesting indeed. Good luck with your book project - let me know when you've finally transcribed everything and I'll pass on your e-mail etc to Alan Leeds if you think it would help any.

Can't thank you enough, Blowpony! This is right up there with the Michael Moore speech. Do you know of any additional recordings Koppelman has done like this, or anybody else for that matter. I've never heard anyone be so candid without getting sued!

bow

but it's now here also:

i don't have any other info, sorry. i just stumbled accross it a while back when i was trying to track michael down with regard to some engineering work.
