I Love SNL. I once heard how they "pick" the skits they are doing each week. They have the "guest" sit down while the players perform the skits, and the skits are given the thumbs up or down by the guest. However, I wonder who the guest actually is? Is it steve or prince? Is prince going to be the musical talent for the show?

Needless to say, it will be one of the mosted desired watchables in many many moons for me.

Maybe we should do a Prince Spot Post because these type shows are not very often a singular event.

Well, I'm guessing Steve won't be doing the music, so lol

i assure you that MOST guests have no say what so ever in what skits get done. they may be able to nix what skits they take part in but they have ZERO control in the content of the show.

What a great weekend, get to watch prince on SNL, then on Sunday get to watch my steelers in the super bowl. For Rolling stones fans (I put me in that catergory) I do believe they are the half time act.

But if you are using the same melody and the original songwriter is listed in the credits then you would at least need permission from the publisher, no?

No, that is the messed up thing. ANYONE can cover ANY song they like. Without ever asking anyone. They would have to pay a fee... but you do not need any knid of premission.

now most major companies required their acts to get premission but that is not a legal (copyright) issue but just a courtasy (sometimes backed up with civil contracts and agreements)

there was an interview with prince where he talks about this issue (Ebony i think). he says something like "i can't take a page from a steven king book and put my name on it. i can;t call it "prince's shinning."

Weird Al doesn't really do cover songs though. Usually, if you alter the work in any way (lyrics, melody, tempo) you are effectively creating an adaptation of the song and you would need to get permission from the owner. That's why you don't hear alot of Prince songs used in rap, he doesn't give permission much (of course there's a bunch of unofficial/unreleased stuff that gets done, but that doesn't count).

Weird Al does parody songs, which are basically granted an exception when it comes to getting the owner's permission. Weird Al gets permission as a courtesy to the artists he parodies, but he doesn't really have to.

I don't think there's a split...a lot of people post at both. Honestly, I get all my news from here and get my video clips & info on boots from there. NPG is for tickets. Each site is like a different friend--like how you have one you invite to the museum, one to the club, and one to go to the movies... biggrin

Nope, Mitch Hedberg died last year at 37, not from a technical suicide but from "multiple drug toxicity" which some could argue was a suicide in a sense as he'd been doing drugs for quite awhile.

Charles Rocket was the one who killed himself and who said the F word on SNL.

You're welcome. Mitch truly was a fantastic comedian. His website was fun, as well - there was a gallery section on it where he'd post pictures fans had sent in of themselves with him, taken after shows or performances. He had a real connection with his fans.

Here's my favorite Mitch Hedberg story, taken from an article about him:

"Unlike many comics, Hedberg was demonstrably thankful to his fans. Not long ago, a group of college students in Florida, speaking with Hedberg backstage after a show, mentioned how hot their dorm room was. Hedberg surprised them the next morning by showing up to their dorm with a new air conditioner."

I'd always wanted to see him do his live standup show but never got the chance. It was a sad day when I found out he'd passed.

..

the name of the guy was CHARLES ROCKET

CHARLENE TILTON (STAR OF TV SHOW DALLAS) DID THE CLOSING CREDITS BUT ROCKET ONLY CUSSED DURING A SKIT... TILTON OF COURSE INTROED PRINCE... JERRY HALL INTROED PRINCE IN 1989

SAD SAD SAD

DUMB AND DUMBER star CHARLES ROCKET committed suicide last week. He was 56.

Connecticut police confirmed the actor/comedian was found dead close to his home on 7 October (05) after slashing his own throat.

Connecticut State Police Sergeant J PAUL VANCE says, "There was no criminal aspect to this case. The post-mortem showed he had committed suicide by cutting his throat with a knife."

Rocket was a regular castmember on SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE in the early 1980s, until he was fired following a profanity-laden parody of DALLAS' famous 'Who Shot JR?' episode.

The actor is survived by his wife BETH and son ZANE.
