What was the last Prince single that really wowed you?

Since TAC is looking like a total failure as a single, when's the last time you heard a new Prince single for the first time and just thought "Goddamn, now that's Prince!"? What was the last Prince single that just put a huge smile on your face, reminded you why you love the guy and got you excited for the new album?

For me, Face Down. Right from the first few seconds of that amazing bassline and Prince yelling "FACE DOWN!" like a brat, I was hooked. Tons of attitude, a fantastic beat, and what a hook! This single made me feel like The Kid was back. Even the vid was awesome.

How about you guys?

YOU

ARE

JOKING

eek

It's only his best song ever. 3rd track on Lovesexy..

This thing we got - its alive!
It seems 2 transcend the physical
One touch and Im satisfied
Must be a dream its so magical

[chorus]
Glam slam, thank you ma'am
You really make my day
Glam slam, thank you ma'am
I pray you always stay

I know I hold you too tight
But I just can't seem to get close enough (I want to hold you)
I want to hold you every night
I'm so horny and you're the star

[chorus]

Heavy feather, flicka nipple
Baby scam water ripple
I don't understand
It means, I love you
Come a butterfly straight on your skin
You go for me and I come again
Glam slam, thank you ma'am
Sun is risen, moon is gone
Soda fizzin' on the lawn
Come a butterfly straight on your skin
Glam slam

Glam slam, thank you ma'am
You really make my day

This thing we got, it's alive
It seems to transcend the physical
One touch and I'm satisfied (ooh, baby)
Must be a dream, it's so magical

[chorus]

Glam slam
You will always stay
You will always stay

It's alright, it's okay

Wow, really? I say that's his most disappointing single in years. I'd waited a long, long time to see Prince finally get the promotional side of the big "comeback" done right, and when the single that'd jumpstart this big comeback of his was just a derivative JB song with no real hook, I was pretty damn disappointed to say the least.

That's what I was telling everybody! Mewsickology sounded like P trying to be JB, which wasn't him, and wasn't cool. But when I heard face down with the attitude and that "kiss my ass" attitude, i couldn't resist. And that was the same year i first heard "7"

Exactly! Musicology is James Brown without the energy or hook.

Face Down is like Prince going "I'm past my prime? I'm washed up? Go fuck yourself!" Face Down grabs you by the fucking throat the second you hear it.

I was just trying to be funny. I would say Gett off and then Let it go. He could have had good singles after that, but he always released the wrong songs.

Yeah, that's weird. Prince's best 90's songs are the ones that never got released as singles.

That's what depresses me as a Prince fan. This man make TERRIBLE choices in releasing singles. Look at that Alan Leeds thread for further proof. You hear so many good songs but the ones he releases make me shake my head in disbelief.

To answer the question, the single that made me go he's FINALLY got it right was "Call My Name". A damn shame that the song wasn't everywhere. The last single that made me excited for a new Prince album was TMBGITW. I was so ready for what became "The Gold Experience".
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

i have to take back my vote..i misread this thread and thought it was the last prince single that you liked, no the last song that blew you away..

the last song that blew me away was probably "shhh". that was released as a song, right?

everything since then has either been a rehash (call my name, man o war, the one) or a bore (ehhh, same list plus the new single which is cute but just...just there)..

however, Musicology was a nice surprise for me...cause it wasn't a slow r&b groove. besides that the song is cute. but it didnt blow me away. like Alphabet St or 7 did upon first listen..
