Prince's most underrated song:

"IT"

Not many people know this, but I think its one of Prince's most honest works. He sings all out and if you listen closely the lyrics are comical. Apparently, the guy is sex addict.

The song drags on a bit too long, but it still is damn good.

Automatic is the best thing he has ever done but never seems to get a mention.

I agree, but disagree. Automatic doesn't get much mention because its an intro to his great album. Just listen to it, it could be instrumental for 10 minutes while Prince comes to the stage. Lady Cab Driver and DMS might follow...

When Prince was recording back then, he was playing live many times a week.

As far as a concert would go, Automatic would be a good intro for 10 minutes or so while they got ready for the great songs such as Lady Cab Driver and DMSR.

Those songs do fit well together. But I guess prince already noticed that! LOL!

I didn't like this song till i heard the reinvention on the concert film, blended with forever in my life. That's hot.

I just thought he was horny ... but sex ADDICT ... that's pretty good ...i think that nuanced explanation better.

I wonder if this song was really a collaboration with Kate doing barely audible backing vox or if the Kate Bush mentions was just a way of paying hommage because My Computer could have been influenced by Kate´s Deeper Understanding off her Sensual World album.

I know he thanks Kate in the booklet but it seems she was more of an influence for the song than actually singing background.

hmmmm I think the "string stab" keyboard sound dates the song quite badly - you know, that stacatto "being nutted by an orchestra" effect

I think "Private Joy" is pretty underated - love that tune :

He doesn't just thank her; it actually lists her as "additional vocals." She IS there. You have to really listen. I've heard her a few times, it just depends on where I'm listening to the track.

17 Days.
If it would've been included in the album & released as a single ('stead as a b-side ), it probably would've done pretty good on the charts.

Yeah It is one of my favorites! I don't think Prince is a sex addict tho...I just think he is a sexual person. There is a difference.

Also We can Funk off of Graffiti Bridge is one of my all time favorite Prince songs. This song usually gets overlooked alot but this song is just the BEST! biggrin

No it's not. That's one of the weaker tracks off SOTT.

My vote would go to "Into The Light" which segues into "I Will".

Money Don't Matter Tonight should have been a bigger hit.

Another Lonely Christmas should be a radio classic like Aerosmith's Dream On or Stairway To Heaven.

Shoo Bed Ooo is great. That bubbly keyboard is great.

Solo is always dissed. It is mysterious and original.

He wrote that song Uncle Sam for Tevin Campbell. The damn thing is great, and Prince's best political lyric.
All you others say Hell Yea!! woot!

Lady Cab Driver. I absoutely love that song and always felt it was under-rated. Everything is tight: The drum playing, keyboards, guiter solo, etc. He sounds like he is having so much fun - especially with his keyboard use acting as horns in a cold electronic song. It's like he is saying in a subtle manner - 'Now do you guys know who is really on those time albums.' The man was def. at the top of his craft during that time. Whew!
