shuggie vs prince

another one...

whos better?

they say shuggie was the 1st one using drum machine and a hendrix type guitarist. he played all instruments horns included. very misunderstood and ahead of times.

Very difficult...

I think Shuggie seemed more skilled as an instrumentalist and composer, Prince is more skilled as singer and dancer/perfomer... Plus Prince is more "mainstream" and commercial...

But it's impossible to compare, Shuggie's career stopped very quick...

When I think that Shuggie's career stopped at age 21, it makes me sick... confused

SHUGGIE OTIS was over by the time prince came out.

maybe if shuggie was still there in 1980 prince wouldnt have been what he is now.

otis music is beautiful and so ahead of the time back then. much more complex and elaborated than prince
i wonder what prince thinks about him.

maybe something like "i was lucky he was gone in 79"

Yeah, Shuggie was ahead of his time definitely... He was a true prodigy.. but I don't know if he would have been a "rival" for Prince...

Yeah agree with you... This is what I said, Shuggie was less "commercial" than Prince, his music was more mature, more complex...
It's obvious when you compare his last album to the first Prince's LPs...

But nobody knows what would happen...
wink

Well Shuggie Released Two absolutely transcendentally brilliant albums, and prince released at least a couple of which are ALMOST trancendentally brilliant. I say Shuggie just had the misfortune of not having commercial success and thus hasn't bothered to release anything since Inspiration Information, who knows if he's kept making music for his own purposes, so quantity is not that important criteria for me. I think Shuggie was probably the better musician and composer, and prince the better showman, but I think that's what just about everyone else on this thread has said. Btw, I don't think Shuggie played horns, I think he just wrote the horn arrangements himself.
