Yeah, I've gotten that a few times.

I've had people say some of the dumbest shit.

My supervisor, a Tech Sergeant in the Air Force said that.
Then he followed up with, "Isn't Prince gay?", and I replied, "I think he probably is at least PART GAY, but so is Freddie Murcery and David Bowie, and nobody makes a big deal out of that."

I've never been embarassed of Prince's FISH qualities. I even thought it was kind of cool. I even purchased the LoveSexy album in a music store in Birmingham Alabama the day it was released, (though I admit it was hard to do so).

But it seems, with Prince people always attach some wierd shit to him.

It didn't help with the stupid symbol name change in the 1993. He was actually starting to be regarded as cool after Diamonds and Pearls and the Symbol album.

But he threw all that away with the symbol name change and the wierd behavior.

2004 was a good turnaround year for Prince, but he still has a PR problem.

although I am confused by something from your post - did your supervisor ACTUALLY SAY TO YOU "Are you gay?", or is that what you just *assumed* he meant by his "disgusted look" to your choice of music? What I mean is, unless he made some effeminate gestures after you said you like Prince, or did something very obvious to convey to you the "are you gay?" message, then I wouldn't immediately assume a bigoted attitude was what he has. maybe he's just a regular old asshole with no manners who doesn't like Prince's music, and (immaturely) chose to put you down solely for THAT...with no sexuality undertones intended.

Sorry to confuse everyone, he didn't ask it, I woulda have been more comfortable if he did, but

1. That night he cracked a joke about gays, everyone laughed but me, and he said I didn’t mean to offend anyone....and walked away laughing.

2. Everyone was listening to 50 cent.

3. I know when str8 men give you the look like you're gay. I'm str8 and have seen enough men do it.

4. When I said Prince, trust me, I got the are u gay or you must gay look?

He's a nice guy though and I'm very str8, but every week there's a rumor that someone is Gay, That's the kinda enviorment I work in. I think I'm certainly in that rumor. His reaction to P only confirms it. I need a new job. wink

eek That shit is NOT cool. Jokes/comments like that are not appropriate for any workplace. If your supervisor's comments are making you uncomfortable (regardless of your sexuality), I think it is harassment. Does he only make homophobic comments, or racist/sexist too? I agree you should look for a better work environment, but until then do you think you could say something to him, like "Please refrain from making jokes like that around me, I find them offensive." Considering that everyone else was laughing too, you will probably get a lot of attitude, but in situations like that I feel that behavior must be addressed. Or maybe you could talk to the Human Resources department? It sucks because you have to work there (at least for the time being), but you really should not have to put up with that shit at your job.

Regardless of if you decide to say something or not, don't let them get under your skin. People like that are just close minded.

Just my twocents

I have yet to receive a negative reaction when I mention Prince, or play his music. I get a few questions like "What makes him special compared to say - Usher,
Michael Jackson, 50 Cent or etc.?" Especially last year when he was inducted into the Rock 'N Roll Hall of Fame.

All I generally have to say is that he plays anywhere between more than 5-10, and he's had about 25 albums since 1978. Then they usually go "Oooooh, I now I see why."

That might have something to do with the fact that for club members, TRC was free. And after Rave Un2 the Joy and the Year 2000, and the doo doo braids and "23 scriptures in a one night stand," TRC was a welcome breath of fresh air. It's the most cohesive piece of work he's done since LoveSexy. All of you haters can keep chugging your Haterade, but it won't change my feelings about this album. It is easily one of the best album he's ever done.

to you....im not denying your right to feel the way you do....have i expressed a hatred towards you for liking the album? have i told you your dumb for liking it? im not hating on anyone or anything....I, ME, MYSELF, NUMERO UNO does not feel the way you do about *this* album...

the supervisor is just an asshole, everyones music taste is different when someone likes music that I hate, like George Michael, or country music, or most of the crap thats on the radio, I just try to find something good about it.

in truth i dont get much hassle about listenin to Prince as much as i get Hassle for listenin to MJ.

What i do notice is that firends who were born in the 70s and b4 are more acceptable to Prince. (am not being being ageist here, am only 24.) These are just causal listeners of his music. Who i still have to explain where Prince is now, allot of my mates seem to think he dissapeared after GOLD!!? eek
