Dolphin on David Letterman

I just saw the prince performance of Dolphin on David Letterman back from the Gold Experience days. Wow.
I remember David making alot of fun of Prince during the show until the performance. He was noticeably blown away by the performance, as was I. Prince is amazing in his versatility and stage presence.

i think prince was complicit in the goofing around - i remember the show started with paul introducing prince to letterman, and he introduced letterman to prince as "the artist formerly known as jackass" or something like that. i think ol' dave showed a lot of restraint, because prince back then was a comedy goldmine.

The best part was Paul and the band making fun of Mayte's ribbon twirling in the segment after P's performance.

Personally I think Leno has shown more respect 2 Prince than Letterman did. Both times when prince was on Letterman, Dave really ripped into him with a lot of sarcasm, whether it was because of the name or the way he went off the stage after performing. Leno is just down-to-earth and friendly with him. Even when we saw that skit when Leno disguised himself and tried 2 "Punk" Prince, it was done tastefully and all in good fun.

What about the skit Prince and Dave did to start the show?

I busted out laughing when Paul introduced David Letterman to Prince as "the artist formerly known as 'pinhead'."

the performance Rocked, best version of the song. Letterman is just lame, I can never watch him, and only have on 2 occasions. "Dolphin" and "Dinner With Delores."

Yeah, that's already been mentioned once.

Pay attention at the back there.

memories! misty water colored memories! LOL ahh I do have fond memories of that day because I drove to conn. and took the train into NYC to see if I could get some seats..to see Prince. Me and 2 of my friends stood out side the side door of the ed sullivan theater for hours in the cold. We never did get in but, it was the very first time I ever saw Prince in person, I was blown away. We also saw Mayte and the whole band going in and out and we saw Kathy lee gifford too..big whoop. smile
we drove home just in time to catch the airing that night.
"not a fan" falloff yeah...ok

Sorry... the "and he introduced letterman to prince as "the artist formerly known as jackass" threw me for a loop, being that is not what was said.

I thought that statement by Anxiety was talking about something else.

Actually, Letterman merely introduced him as "The Artist Formerly Known As..." and then laughed as he held up the gold prince sign.

Hilariously, Letterman also said something like "I'm being told this is a song off an album that will never see the light of day...so it makes perfect sense that he's here tonight to promote it."

We're talking about the opening skit.

Paul introduced David to Prince and called him TAFKA"Pinhead."

Nah, it doesn't take a genius to work out that he was doing something called 'paraphrasing' - look it up.
