Choas and disorder is indeed that........

I like prince's rock/pop stuff, but most of "chaos" is pretty much a "fuck u warners iam off" material. Which is obvious and to me, that doesn't make it a good album.

Title track is good though and "i rock therefore I am" is a blast. Ragga and Prince is a funny combo.

Of course "dinner with delores" is wonderful. So not all bad then, but easily my least fav Prince album

well, it might have been better, had Prince decided
to pull out two or three more top notch songs to be
put on it.
Stuff like "Empty Room", "Da Bang", "Calhoun Sq"
could have replaced "RightTheWrong" "I Rock" and
stuff like "Zanalee" should have been left untouched
in their original format and not re-recorded and
over-layered like they were.

should have could have would have. it's still a good
album though. I just skip the two awfull tracks and
enjoy the rest.

I agree. Dinner with Delores is a GREAT song. So is Zannalee and I like it there. That is about all I can stomach on that album. You know I know he had some valdidity with the WB fueud but good gawd Prince you have fans that really want all your stuff...I felt kinda resentful at that time like not only was he dumping garbage on WB but his fans too. It seemed like he kinda forgot that there were people who would actually spend their hard earned money on this stuff to complete their Prince collection. But I guess he had to do what he had to do.

It would have been phenomenal if he'd decided to make it
just a straight up rock album. something perhaps like:

Chaos & Disorder
I Like it There
Dinner with Delores
Calhoun Sq
Same December
The Ride
Zanalee (original)
Into The Light
I Will
Da Bang
Empty Room
Had U

I think it's the uneven-ness of it that bothers folks so much. Probably no one has been as hard on that album as I was. I cursed Prince for wasting my money the second 'Had U' ended. Over time I've softened my position on it. There's nothing truly great on it, save for maybe 'Dinner With Delores' which I've always maintained is one of his more underrated songs. I can now listen to 'I Like It There', 'Into The Light', 'I Will', and 'Had U' with some measure of appreciation. The rest of it is just godawful. By his standards, anyway.

C&D is like the Black Album - don't confuse the motive behind the compilation of the tracks with the tracks themselves.

The circumstances surrounding its release are full of bitterness and spite, and the album is intentionally short (LP length, as is Come and OF4S).

That doesn't take away from the album's content: I Like It There, The Same December, Dinner With Delores, Zanalee, and Into The Light are all fantastic tracks. Some of the best work of the 90s. The title track and I Will are also note-worthy.

All in all, it makes a very decent commercial release, it stands taller than Musicology and Rave, and it wasn't even trying like they were.

I read he recorded it in a week. (except zanalee) but Iam sure Iam wrong.

I did say it was my least fav Prince album, but u just reminded me of "rave", which was also piss poor. Its a toughie

I see no-one likes "i rock therefore Iam". Too much ragga I suppose lol

I like the album overall and I think it wouild've been even better in the configuration that IstenSzek listed. One of my fav tracks is "I Will". Does anybody else feel this way? It's so melodic and the screaming guitar part at the end is great.

heart "I Will", it reminds me of a track off the "Diamonds and Pearls" CD. My one complaint about the song is that it's too short. giggle It needs another verse, Prince.

You know, you have a good point there. I guess for me,
in a sense, with Chaos and Disorder, maybe I was expecting
the next logical step to The Gold Experience. Regardless,
the album still rocks.

I really love listening to most of this album...

To me, it shows Prince's incredible musicianship and how quickly he can make excellent arrangements.

I mean, the intensity of I Rock Therefore I Am!! His guitar playing at the end is unreal. It's a complete band jam and Rosie really let's loose on this. Prince's vocal combined with Rosie's during the verses is amazing.

Into the light seguing into I Will is super dope. All of the keyboards on I Will are incredible. Prince's guitar work on this song is some of his best!! Seriously!! Go back and listen to all of the guitars. He is playing some seriously dope shit on this one!!

Dinner with Delores is sick although a very bad single choice. I Like It There is cool because it's so raw. Nothing spectacular but fun little tune.

Had U is the most interesting production on this record to me. It's real dark and very emotive. I wish more of Prince's music was like this. It wasn't overproduced or too glossy like much of his 90s material. The song had character - the way the song was recorded and the instrument and keyboard selections all gave it a dark character.

I really like it!! The same goes for the Come record. Prince's throwaway records are pretty damn good.

I really like this album for the guitar work more than anything else.

It sounds like prince is just rocking on his guitar and that's all I really

try to view it as.
"Why'd I waste my kisses on you baby?" R.I.P. Prince You've finally found your way back home. Well Done.

According the The Vault, a lot of the stuff dates from 1993/4/5.

Into The Light / I Will come from February 1996, and I Like It There comes from April 1996.

The album was compiled, along with The Vault....OF4S.

A lot of fans criticise C&D and The Vault, still now even, for having poor artwork and poor content, blaming it on WB, or the feud with them. Prince delivered these records to WB complete, artwork and all.

Obviously he intended them to be sub-par releases, much like the released version of Come.

I still think there's much quality to be found on these releases though. Other than a few tracks, C&D is great album, full of energy and the production is far better than anything from the post WB releases 1996-2000.

I like this album...I tend to listen to a single album over and over for weeks at a time till Im sick of it....then switch to something else...more than one spin means its not absolutely dreadful and each successive spin increases its rank...I think C&D hung around in there for about 2 wks...compare to 1999 which spun a solid 5.... biggrin

I like Rave as well. It's so much better than C & D. C & D just seems to be something he threw together. I only like "I Will", and "I Rock:." The rest is just dumb and silly.
