In a way I kinda dislike the term 'fake' when applied to these tracks, as in
the vast majority of cases the artists who did record them were not trying to
pass themselves off as Prince. It's fans either deliberately or ignorantly
mislabeling audio files that cause these issues.

With regard to Seamore Funk, you can catch some of his Prince/Rick James/
James Brown influenced tracks here: http://www.thenewpower.co...nloads.htm

I notice he's recently signed up as a member here too.

I agree with you about the 'fake' label. In the case of 'Seamore Funk', for example, he made it abundantly clear on the website space that he used to promote his recordings previously, that he was heavily influenced by Prince and others, and his work was someting of a tribute to his musical imspirations.

I thought "Sleazy" from the Rude Boy CD as mentioned by langebleu, was genuine, being just a small snippet from a rehearsal?

U can't b sure about Amandla. confused I've read that Miles said at a concert it was written by Prince.

'Amandla' was written by Marcus Miller.

He's registered as sole author at the Library of Congress, and solely registered to receive the publishing monies at ASCAP.
.

That is correct. But then, where did the rumour come from? The track actually sounds Princy.

Miller is, as u know, a big Prince-fan by the way.

Hello,

I've had 2 wait 5 days 2 post here.
It's been eating me up.
I've wanted 2 write something kinda bad.
I use 2 record under the psuedonym, Seamore Funk.
I use TheNewPower.Com now.
Those are my songs ur speaking of.
They use stay at the top of the charts on mp3.com (back when the site was hot).
A lot of u downloaded them and assumed they were Prince or Prince fakes.
People labeled them as Prince's and then shared them on the net.
I never said I was Prince. I didn't label them like that.
My tracks are not fakes.
I wrote, produced, and performed them all. About 600 to date.
I'm not tryin' 2 be Prince.
I was influenced by him, though.
As well as The Bar-Kays, Ohio Players, The Time, James Brown, Zapp, EW&F, P-Funk,Sly Stone, Al Green, The Staple Singers, & Curtis Mayfield to name a few.
Prince is the baddest of all Time....No doubt !!
I never meant any disrespect.
U really can't help who you've been influenced by.
He sounds like all of his influences, as well.
No one labels his music as James Brown fakes, Little Richard fakes, Beatles fakes, Sly and The Family Stone fakes, or even Hendrix fakes.
We're all products of our influences.

Bigtime fan,

After I registered for this site and tried to post in the forum, I got a message that said I was not allowed to post if i had signed up in the past 5 days. So for 5 days I tried to post, but had no luck.

I changed my name because I started publishing a rap/r&b magazine called The New Power. I figured, what's a good way to draw people to my site ? Call myself TheNewPower.Com And everytime they see or hear the name, they'll see or hear my web address.

The player on the site is really a flash player. U may not have one installed on your computer. U can get it here http://www.macromedia.com

That "Moments" thing is called "Minneapolis #2" which was released by Wendy & Lisa (it's Lisa playing it...) back in 1990 on a 3" bonus disc accompanying their "Eroica" release...

"Moments" (or "Minneapolis #2) was mistakenly labeled by idiot bootleggers as the piano intro to the "Dream Factory" album...
The piano intro to the "Dream Factory" album was called "Visions" and was actually another piece released by Wendy & Lisa as "Minneapolis #1" on the same disc, hence the mix up by dumbass bootleggers who are too stupid to do some work...

For those who don't know
"Underground " is a track from the "Breakfast club" soundtrack, 1985
It's a Keith Forsey instrumental number titled 'The reggae'.
Absolutely not a Prince demo from 1988!

Sorta. Basinger recorded an album at PP, tenatively titled The Colour of Sex. It had some Prince involvement, but the whole project was scuttled when they split up. To my knowledge, none of the tracks still exist, and any boots purported to be from it are simply fakes.

How 'bout The (entire)Black Album redone by some German group after Prince pulled his version off the market. Hopefully no one has mistaken these dudes for Prince, but the CD packaging looks legit enough to fool some folks.

Hehehe, I remember being totally pleased by finding "The Black Album" on CD in the "Prince" department of the local record store. Only to find out that some person had been trying to totally recreate that album, boy was that a disappointment! lol

Anyway, I didn't buy it back then but lately I have started to regret that fact. So if anyone can hook me up with a CD-R copy???

How about 'Heart Of Stone'?
That one popped up fairly recently - in a really good quality too.
Still, it's not in the Vault book + it's difficult to place it in a particular Prince period.
Anybody knows anything more about this ???

Ha, thanks for that, Neversin.
It's definitely genuine then ?
It sounds very different from other Emancipation tracks. It's like the simple pop track some people wish Prince would make (that's why I was disinclined to accept it as real). I suppose he *was* trying very hard to make a radio-friendly hit there?
Do you know whether it was meant for somebody else? Whether it ever was on the Emancipation tracklist?
