Need Help, Prince autograph fake

I went to a store that sells autographed merchandise. They had a 4 x 6 photo of Prince from the MUSICOLOGY tour and it was signed. They were selling it for $64.99 CDN. They tell me that I will get a certificate of authenticity on any item sold by them.

I was going to buy it, but then I thought, now that he is a Jehovah's Witness, I am positive that he would not sign any autographs around the MUSICOLOGY era.

It leads me to believe that it could be a fake autograph. It is done with a thick permanant marker and somewhat resembles Prince's signature.

Anybody know if this might be fake?

I will make you a certificate of authenticity on my computer if you like.

The rule of thumb when it comes to autographs is that if you didn't see it signed it's a fake. I would say this is especially true with Prince who stoppped signing autographs like 12 years ago. These days when someone asks him for his autograph he gives them a "Watchtower".

Well, shouldn't this type of thing be illegal? How do they get away with it?

What are you going to call the cops on the store and if you do how do you prove it's fake without bringing Prince into the store with you?

Dugen

It's messed up that they do that kind of stuff. A friend of mines has the 1999 album signed. She swears up & down that it's real and I tried telling her that it's not, it doesn't even come close 2 his signature or handwriting style.

I don't see the point of having something signed when you didn't actually meet the person and ask them to sign it to you personally. I feel that's the whole point..

My friend's mum will ask anyone for an autograph and literally get them to sign anything at any time. She saw Jimmy White outside a McDonalds on a London highstreet doing something that looked a lot like a drugdeal, but she just went right on over and asked him to sign her happy meal. Now there is a story behind the autograph lol
