Thriller Vs Purple Rain Just wondering How much more did thriller gross than Purpla Rain?
And Off the wall against 1999? Bad Vs Parade? Does anyone have their figures & chart stats? We all want a big hit again because
we want to relive the Hysteria & Pandemonium we experienced when Purple Rain was Hot. Actually, he doesn't care if it happens again or not.

Should be...
Off The Wall vs. Prince -- 1979 Thriller vs. 1999 -- 1982/1983 Bad vs. Sign O' The Times -- 1987 I do know that "I Wanna Be Your Lover" knocked out Jackson's song "Off The Wall" for the #1 spot on the R&B charts. Though, I'm sure Jackson has always outsold Prince. And to be fair... Jackson's single album sales span the length of two Prince album releases and sometimes three. [Edited 6/13/05 21:01pm]

Well, according to 1993 worldwide sales figures from Minneapolis journalist Jon Bream for Prince albums, and Jackson sales by 2004 according to his official site MJJSource, we have:
m = million, k = x1000 "1999" (by 1993) = 5m "Off The Wall" = 19m "Purple Rain" ( 14.7m by 1993) = between 18m and 20m (Soundscan sales since 1991 = 2.2m ) (Warner said 4.5m outside US by 1992) (some sales awards: 13m in USA, 600k in Canada, 600k in UK, 500k in Germany, 300k in France, 200k in Japan, 140k in Australia) Thriller = 59m (Soundscan sales since 1991 + BMG Record Club Sales = 3.2m ) (some sales awards: 27m in USA, 2.2m in Canada, 3.3m in UK, 1.5m in Germany, 2.7m in France, 1.6m in Japan, 880k in Holland, 840k in Australia, 600k in Spain) "Around The World In A Day" (by 1993) = 4.35m "Bad" = 28m "Parade" (by 1993) = 3.5m "Dangerous" = 29m The interesting question was: if "Purple Rain" would have been released before "Thriller" would be the former presently the best-selling album ever in popular music history???
