The creators of Asterix were Prince fans!

So i was sitting there reading "Asterix and the Secret Weapon", which is basically about this new woman bard coming to educate the kids, and they have a partay to welcome her to the village and they beg her to play something. So she comes out with her tambourine and starts singing " ARMORICA! ARMORICA! TOUTATIS SHED HIS GRACE ON THEE!". So Armorica is like some place in Gaul or something and Toutatis was their God. I just caught a glimpse of the Armorica bit as i was closing the book and i was like omfg Like she has the drum and everything and the soo similar lyrics.

This better not be a much used phrase and this is all a coincedence neutral

Prince drew on the words from "America The Beautiful" ... lyrics by Katherine Lee Bates (music composed by Samuel A. Ward)

O beautiful for spacious skies,
For amber waves of grain,
For purple mountain majesties
Above the fruited plain!

America! America!
God shed His grace on thee
,
And crown thy good with brotherhood
From sea to shining sea!
O beautiful for pilgrim feet
Whose stern impassion'd stress
A thoroughfare for freedom beat
Across the wilderness.

America! America!
God mend thine ev'ry flaw,
Confirm thy soul in self-control,
Thy liberty in law.

O beautiful for heroes prov'd
In liberating strife,
Who more than self their country loved,
And mercy more than life.

America! America!
May God thy gold refine
Till all success be nobleness,
And ev'ry gain divine.

O beautiful for patriot dream
That sees beyond the years
Thine alabster cities gleam
Undimmed by human tears.

America! America!
God shed His grace on thee,
And crown thy good with brotherhood
From sea to shining sea.

just as he adapts the words, "purple mountain majesties" on the 12" version.

America (Extended Version)

Yeah
(Shotgun)
Peace!
Eh, yeah, eh
Aristocrats on a mountain climb
Makin' money, losin' time
Communism is just a word
But if the government turn over
It'll be the only word that's heard

CHORUS:
America, America
God shed His grace on thee
America, America
Keep the children free

Little sister make minimum wage
Livin' in a one-room jungle monkey cage
Can't get over, she almost dead
She may not be in the black
But she happy she ain't in the red

CHORUS

Freedom - Love - Joy - Peace

Jimmy Nothing never went 2 school
They made him pledge allegiance
He said it wasn't cool
Nothin' made Jimmy proud
Now Jimmy live on a mushroom cloud

CHORUS {x2}

Freedom - Love - Joy - Peace

Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom! (Oh Lord)
And the bomb go
Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom! (Oh Lord)
And the bomb go
Boom!

Teacher, why won't Jimmy pledge allegiance?

That's enough {5:35 mark}

CHORUS

Drums!

Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom!
And the bomb go
Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom! ([...])
And the bomb go
Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom!
(And the bomb go... Boom!) {x2}

CHORUS {x2}

Freedom - Love
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah!

Purple mountain majesty

Aristocrats on a mountain climb
Makin' money, losin' time
Communism is just a word
But if the government turn over
It'll be the only word that's heard

U gonna stand in my way? Hey!
[Come on, they said, can I sing ...]
Yeah

Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom!
And the bomb go
Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom!
And the bomb go
Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom!
And the bomb go
Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom!
And the bomb go
Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom! (CHORUS in background)
And the bomb go
Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom!
And the bomb go (America, America)
Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom! (God shed His grace on thee)
And the bomb go (America, America)
Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom! (Keep the children, keep the children)
Boom! Boom! (Keep the children free)
And the bomb go
Boom!

In the original version she sings about bringning along flowers from Lutetia (the Roman name for the city currently known as Paris) So much for the Prince connection here. Besides, Renée Goscini, the scenario writer for the first couple of Asterix comic died in 1976 a few years prior to Prince breaking through

But Albert Uderzo (the Artist who has drawn all Asterix comics and wrote all the scenarios after Goscini's death) happens to be a big beatles fan. The Beatles themselves appear in "Asterix and the Brits" and thw wife of fish sales man Unhygienix is called "Yellowsubmarine" in the original issues.
