I HATE PURPLE RAIN! i hate that fuckin movie and that fuckin record!
maybe its cuz i used to listen/watch it so much, but i can't stand it! i'd take under the cherry moon AND graffiti bridge over pr movie ANY DAY! and any other record over purple rain too! btw, did i mention i hated that song? i used 2 love it, but now its like..if i hear that overated peice of shit one more time.....ahhhhh! who feels me? Yesterday is dead...tomorrow hasnt arrived yet....i have just ONE day...

Purple Rain was a fun movie and he hasn't released a better album since. The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

That's why I listen to Prince's albums in cycles. Sometimes I'll go through an "Old Prince" cycle, so it's all Prince-Purple Rain. Other times I'll want experimental Prince, so it's ATWIAD-Lovesexy. Then other times I'll want modern Prince, so it's  -Crystal Ball.
It just depends. The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

It just depends. That's exactly the way I am when I'm in a Prince mood. I never mix the different eras because they are completely different sounds and different moods. When I listen to music in general, whether it's funk, rock, disco, house, or slow jams...I never mix the genres because it disturbs the flow and spoils the mood. When everything is all lumped together, it's like going up....and coming down.....going up....and coming down. Andy is a four letter word. | |

Yeah, the movie does kinda suck -but it's great for drinking games, it has an important place in Rock history, and most importantly the soundtrack kicks all ass!

Really? I loved that movie and the album..it's what made me get into Prince hardcore...but I do agree it can get sicking after a while...when you hear When doves cry for the 10X on the radio, at the club, in the dentists office, ect it makes you wanna scream ENOUGH!!!! | |

I'd sooner watch Under the Cherry Moon or Graffiti Bridge but I certainly don't hate Purple Rain.

Really? The Purple Rain album is probably the least played out of all of the albums over the last 10 years for me. I may play the odd track but can never play the whole album. It falls apart once When Doves Cry is finished for me..... and don't even get me started on the title track as I am about to have my dinner and want to keep it down! I can understand growing tired of a song, movie, album you overplay ... but calling it overrated? How can you say that.
Even though I'm sick to death of some of the songs he plays in concert, I can't deny that some are master creations and got the popularity/attention they deserved. I was empathizing with you until you said that 
Anyway. Everytime I hear Purple Rain it amazingly sounds as energetic and innovative as when I first heard "Dearly Beloved..." at the album's debut. Seriously. I get tired of For You, Prince, and Controversy ... but NEVER Dirty Mind, 1999, Purple Rain, Lovesexy, or SOTT | |

I love the soundtrack...just learned to play it less frequently so as not to get burnt out on it like I did years ago...it's a gem now when I hear it...the movie...I can take it every coupla...years.
