Ian's Semi Final World Cup Thread

Ian, I hope you don't mind, but I think your world cup threads are so good, that even the second one was growing too big for us non broadband folk.

Therefore, I wanted to start a new thread, devoted to the true followers of football.

Did Korea get "paid" help with the refs, discuss.

Good idea...I don't remember a basketball thread getting so long. wink

As for South Korea getting 'help' from the refs... . Maybe; cause if it wasn't for bad decisions by the refs, the Koreians (sp?) wouldn't have gotten so far. neutral

No problem Squirrel Meat, I was gonna create another thread soon myself anyway biggrin

As for referees... I think we should give them a break! Mistakes ALWAYS get made, referees can't be everywhere at once. The best thing Spain and Italy can do is show some dignity and grace in defeat and quit their bitching smile

Overall I don't think the refereeing in the tournament has been bad. The only thing I haven't liked is the amount of times the offside flag is raised rather than just letting play continue. Kinda spoils the game sometimes.

Okay lads today is Germany vs Sth. Korea. Let's leave the controversy about referee decisions aside for a bit and let's just focus on the game!

Predictions? When Ireland played Germany it was a tough match indeed. I'm guessing that Korea have the energy and the ability to get a goal past Germany but my gut feeling is either 1-0 or 2-1 to Germany.

I really want S.Korea to get to the final, that would be total class! However I don't want them to do it through some kind of luck, cos that'll only add to the BS rumours.

Has there ever been any known incident of a bribed ref? I've heard about dodgy goalkeepers, but that's all.

Unlucky South Korea.

However, I must say, they have had an amazing tournament.

I still think Brazil will win it.

there was a problem in italy a few years back. one of the big clubs (i think it was roma) had sent out 'gifts' at the end of the season to all the referees, as a 'thanks for a good season' gesture. but since the so-called gifts was rolex watches in the more expensive end of the line it raised quite a few eyebrows and since then the clubs haven't been allowed to send 'gifts' to the refs...

Well, well, Germany are in the final. Looks like there´s a chance that the $5 I bet on them will turn into $80 after all. I really thought South Korea would beat them, but now it looks pretty promising (except for Ballack being sent off, what a shame).

Don´t underestimate Turkey in the other semi final. They´ve been playing very well and should have won against Brazil the last time. If Turkey wins, though, I don´t think they´ll have enough strength left to win the final as well. But if Brazil wins, I think they will beat Germany in the final.

Turkey will win at least a bronze medal. South Korea will have to settle for a fourth place in any case. At least that´s my guess.

Brazil is going to beat Turkey tomorrow, and they'll beat Germany. Brazil WILL be our 2002 World Cup champions.

Go Ronaldo! biggrin

Yeah that is a shame he will miss the finals, poor guy sad Anyway I'm delighted that Germany have proven the critics wrong and done so well. Congrats!

Not to dismiss Turkey ... but a Germany v Brazil finals will be a great match I'd imagine smile

Is it hard to be efficient against Saudi, a weaker than normal Cameroon, Paraguay, USA and South Korea? What a route to the Final. Lucky what nots.

I feel sorry for Spain. They should have been them in Germany's place. But thats football!
