"exactement.like i said: separate the person and their life from their art, and you're cool. when i listen to music, i don't visualize the artist. that's a waste of time"

But, Michael Jackson IS his art. The brother on stage at Motown 25 IS the art.

Prince playing live IS the art. Purple Rain the movie is the art (visual and audio).

The imagery that goes with the songs IS the art.

Notice Prince doesn't seperate himself from his art. At the very least he blurs the lines on purpose--same with MJ. When they are out promoting their personas it tends to muddy it all up when scandal hits.

"U said as much when u said, 'I used to rock to P.Y.T. and now it is ruined for me.'
If u didn't think he was guilty, y is Pretty Young Thing now ruined 4 u?"

Um, PYT is ruined for me because instead of being listened to against the backdrop of a hip 20something young man MJ singing about a cute girl. It is now listened to against the backdrop of the world's biggest star going up against child molestation accusations (again.)

I still dig James Brown after all the "wife slaps". People change. Sometimes good, sometimes for the worse.

You can hear true heart felt messages about subjects and down right F.U.N.K.

It's the messege, not the messenger that I dig in music.

Art is subjective is it not?

I understand what you are saying. I don't have a preoccupation or even a slight obsession with MJ's, Prince's, or whatever celebrities personal life. However, MJ's scandal is affecting his art that's all I am saying. Without the '93 allegations would you have songs like "Scream" or "They don't care about us"??? No. MJ and Prince both intertwine themselves and their art together. So when something huge (positive or negative) happens in their life it affects their art and the perception of their art.

You might not picture MJ dancing when you hear Billie Jean, but I think you are in the minority. When I hear "purple rain" I can visualize Prince doin' it live, in the movie, or otherwise. When I hear Thriller I see the monsters, the red leather jacket, and Ola Ray. Now when I hear MJ's music I to often visualize him going to court. I don't think I am alone. It is damn hard to separate the man from the music. Both Prince and MJ have made it that way.

I would still love him and his music. You can't just turn off stuff like that.

But depending on the scandal I might not respect him anymore.

It would definitely eliminate any guilt associated with bootlegging neutral
If you will, so will I

It would be difficult 4 me 2 listen 2 a musician I didnt respect & admire. Prince's slate is clean. MJ 4 example...has music I loved/love BUT I cannot listen 2 it NOW. I dont want 2 b ashamed of who I listen 2. It reflects on YOU. Then I get these visions in my head of the artist & his makeup while I listen. It better b good visions or it does nothing 4 me. IMHO, the artist & music coincide. They R NOT seperate.
