No I'm not Vicky. I remember there being a Vicky in Perth that I wrote to a few times. Wonnder if she is anywhere around, same person you are thinking of?

It was a black transit van with a portrait of Prince on the bonnet, and Lovesexy Symbols all over the rest of it.

No I was with New Power Generation - I didn't like the Controversy crew.

Gallery does work for me. I fucking hate that thing. And the worst part is, no one else has any trouble with it, so no one sees anything to fix.

what is your fucking problem mate - you have no idea what you were talking about, here is a quick history lesson for you.

Controversy was a joint operation between Eileen Murton and Chris Dawson. They went their seperate ways and Controversy remained as Controversy and The Revolution was Chris'. I was member 301 with The Revolution which then went onto become the NPG.

Both clubs had very differnt views in they way they saw Prince, The Revolution and NPG reflected more of how I felt.

The Black Album draws the line for me between the two types of fans involved with each club. I smashed my black album which I happened to have given to me by a rep from WEA. This was a stand for me personally and was a view carried by the NPG. Contoversy on the other hand supported the black album. It was a simple black and white issue for me.

So your point being?

What are you trying to prove here?

ok, GLAM SLAM is my favorite prince video becuase

1. {some} concert videos are cool
2. CAT
3. cheesy 80s dance
4. the fun everyone seems to be havin
5. the late 80s were cool

I just love the whole video the way it feels, the way it looks, etc. GS is also one of my top favorite songs too....

the meaning of this thread was to get info on the vid, and also i barely hear any fans talk about this video so i just want to know what the fan community thinks of this.....

i think its prince at one of his peaks.....right before the 90s happened to him, as yall say.....

Hmmm I think the video is kinda cheesy but if you like it more power to ya.
thumbs up! Not all that crazy about concert videos unless it is for a song like "It's goona be a beautiful night" or "Housequake" or some song that gets even better with the crowds energy. Some songs I think are just better suited for a traditional video style format and I think Glam Slam would be one of these songs. But yeah the song is awsome, it has always been one of my favorites. Oh yeah and Cat looked cool with the hoop earings and black hat in the video.

67TBirdHeartAttack, why did the NPG feel this way - I was a (not very active) member of both clubs, and I never really understood the difference between the two of them - was the NPG just more interested in the spiritual side of Prince's music? Is that why they wanted the Black Album destroyed? Or was it more about bootlegging, and honouring Prince's artistic wishes?

The differences started when it came to bootlegging, the Black album brought all the reasons into sharp focus.

We all know that Prince communicates through his music and most of the time that which is relayed is very personal. Probably why so many are so touched. For some though it is just about the music and those people will always want bootlegs. For others that are more about the meaning and the message of songs bootlegs are just plain wrong. Prince is a musician/songwriter and as such this is how he expresses himself. If he were an artist it would be in paintings, if he were a writer it would be in books. Listening to bootlegs is like reading his diary. Most diaries contain our deepest and most personal thoughts and feelings. Some of this Prince shares with us through his music. The Black album is one of those sections of your diary you would want locked never to be read by anyone else.

That said however without The Black album, Lovesexy would never have existed. That is why in concert he performed tracks from the Black album. They were intrinsic to the story he was telling.

The Revolution/NPG provided me with what I sought in a fan club. Reading articles that shared my views, meeting like minded people. Controversy did not provide anything of any depth and most people I met from there were all into bootlegs and just didn't see Prince in the same way I did.

Gosh you really have no clue do you - you are so far off with your facts you should quit whilst you bury yourself deeper and deeper and look like the fool you are trying to make me out to be.

No-one was ever asked to smash their album. A fan read an article written by the club - then called The Revolution - as to why you shouldn't buy the Black album. Tha fan made a special trip to the offices of the club walked in and in front of everyone there smashed his copy to pieces. This story was printed in the next newsletter and shortly thereafter the club started receiving black albums smashed to pieces in the mail. That original smashed album was framed and put up in the entrance of the office.

Next FACT you need straightening out?

Hi 67TBirdHeartAttack,

I was a member of Controversy and feel I do have to stick up for it a bit. Controversy was a great club because it was mainly about the music. The other clubs seemed to be more about meeting Prince and becoming best buddies with him, which didn't interest me at all because I liked the idea of this guy who noone knew much about.

I met Eileen and Chris many times back then, not just at gigs but also at record fairs, and Eileen was definately the more grounded of the two. Without her and the club I would not have had the amazing experiences I had back then of getting priority seating at gigs and entrance into aftershows. I thought the whole "send us your copies of the Black Album" thing was way too extreme and kinda funny.

Having said that though, all the clubs served their purpose and were all great at the time, purely because there wasn't this thing called The Internet and it was the only way fans could get information on him. Anyone who remembers Eileen's recorded answer-phone messages will know what I mean smile.

Have to say though, I'm MOST impressed by your concert attendances. I've been to around 50 over the years and thought that was a lot! smile.

Oh, and back to the original topic, I love the Glam Slam video too. The Lovesexy gigs bring back the best memories for me as it was the first tour I'd been to see (missed Parade and the SOTT gig in London was cancelled), and I loved the theatrics of it all, especially as I was in the third row on the first night!
