i bought for a fiver on amazon a week ago - man, i clda saved 2 squires if i hadnt been as lazy.

i like it... however those who don't think musicology is that great should listen to this.

from 1996 onwards, with the exception of rave and musicology, it just seems like each track is a product of prince just.. jammin'

i still think emancipation is well worth my fiver, even if just for the artwork alone.

one question (just been reading through the booklet in detail) under in this bed eye scream.. it says backwards "2 wendy and lisa and susannah" - how come its the only thing written backwards? as if 2 disguise it?

You could argue it draws attention away from Prince trying to make nice with erstwhile colleagues, as if he's slightly embarrassed to be putting something personal on the booklet.

Or it could be a nod to the background writing which was often used during the Revolution years when they were with him.

Or it could be that backward writing is Prince's way of highlighting the comment, after all, he often wrote 'Slave' backwards on his cheek.

Or it could be drawing attention to the comment, since you are forced to expend effort in translating it.

Any of these, really. Only Prince knows.

For that money, every Prince fan should buy the album. There's so many tracks on there, you're bound to like a few even if you don't like the whole album.

HMV periodically put this album on sale, and every time they must shift a couple dozen more copies, i'd love to know just how many. does it ever re-chart on like the rnb chart or something

I definately think its worth £3, as people say, 36 songs, there's bound to be at least 6 you like, at least.

i wonder how much emancipation has sold in the UK now, and also, how many copies HMV have in their wherehouses!

I work in a HMV store. and I have to say the album has been in most of there sales for 3.99 for the past 4 yrs or so, I will out of interest check out how many we have sold when Im back in work 2morow.

To my upset I bought it when it first came out on tape/cassette, had my car stolen, and the only thing they nicked after i found the car dumped was tape 2 from the set, boo hoo, anyway needless to say I have a spare cd set now!!

p.s they got the 3 dvd box set of the films on at 20.00 and other cd's from Prince in the sale..check them out.

why not just check the website!! www.hmv.co.uk might it not be cheaper for you just to buy it in italy? there must be a site or shop that has it cheap?

wow i always thought this album was well out of print, I've only ever seen it in used record stores usually priced at around 4 or 5 euros which it warrants for The Holy River alone, one of the best Prince songs ever imo

Dreamin' About U is my personal favorite from that album. It has that spring night vibe in it.

This has to be Prince's most ill-advised LP ever; more so than any other career moves, to my mind any.

While there are some good songs (good, certainly not great - In This Bed I Scream springs immediatly to mind) the wealth of over-produced stodgy shite on here is at an all-time high.

Prince had a real opportunity at this point in his career to banish any unwarranted criticism - especially with regard to the age old adage 'he puts out to much stuff'/'he has no quality control button' - but instead he released this triple and let all the Prince critics take easy shots.

Having said that - in an age when LPs are becoming depressingly disposable (thanks to the Ipod/mp3 players) you can probably make a pretty solid 10-track LP.

That's if you can be arsed. wink

Enigmoid

As an album of songs, this CD set is quite astonishing. It's got 36 songs which is remarkable in itself, each with crisp production and great songwriting and there's a large amount of commercial sounding songs that, if promoted correctly, could have made the album huge. If anybody else had released it, it would have been rated a lot higher.

I always think that Kirky J's production is fine... It just doesn't suit Prince's music. I think that it's just too slick and succeeded only in turning Prince's raw sound into a typical 1990s sound and ultimately created Prince's most 'plastic' sounding album ever.

As a Prince album, it's average. I like it and when I'm in the right mood, I love it, but it's still average.

Still, at £2.99 you'd be a fool to yourself daft not to. It's still a Prince album and if you're a fan then you have to have it and you're guaranteed to find at least 10 songs that you'll love.

i looooove the song " eye can't make you love me" it's fantastic! there are loads of other ones such as soul sanctuary, dreamin about u, curious child, holy river, my computer, one of us. i would have paid full price for this anyday over other fodder such as graffiti bridge, batman and diamonds and pearls!

i get the feeling that the album doesn't do well and didn't maybe because there isn't a picture of prince or his name, just the silly symbol. a picture alone could have doubled sales so people who liked his previous material might have a ganders. just a thought.
