Freak A Leek: Petey Pablo vs. Prince

The Prince & the NPG played this at a show in San Jose, Ca. P just ripped that bass in an instrumental version, and I was feelin this more than the original. It was funky as hell and Chance was holdin it down on the keys.

This is such a great example of how fun his live shows are and how a great musician can play anything that comes to mind.

Anyone else heard this?

Any other good examples of Prince playing someone else's song and just tearin it up?

Aahahahaa. Hell no. I was just telling someone about how he had gone into this song, and it made most of the crowd go crazy. Clearly, there are better examples of his skill than playing this song, but I just wanted to see if anyone else recalls this. It was actually pretty funky. His bass matched the vocal perfectly while Chance was playin that synthesizer and the beat was just deep as hell.

I was at several concerts where he played this song, it was so cool, but I guess we don't have access to it in any form.

He played an acoustic version of "Yeah!" I believe in Birmingham. The crowd went crazy.

oh this was definitely reality. i think it really shocked the younger crowd in there because he took somethin that they all know and tore it up so easily.

at the end of the night, i heard so many teenagers and peeps in their early 20s that were like 'damn, did you hear him play freak a leek? shit was tight!' that song alone kinda struck a chord with a lot of them. a number of them said they wanted to check his earlier music out just because of that. it was kinda funny.

I was in San Jose for that show. That was one of my most favorite parts of the show. Not only did he rip it up on the bass but that was the time all the ladies were led to go on stage. So we had freek a leek, Prince jamming on the bass, Chance on keyboards and sexy ladies dancing. Thats the best!

What was the date? Did he sing it, or was it just the instrumental?
