What's with the love for Until U're In My Arms Again?

I'm noticing a lot more ppl talking about how this is a great Prince song and so full of emotion...Huh?!

This song is SO corny, and probably the absolute worst song ever written about such a personal issue.

I mean, I've seen tons of ppl say it's about his deceased son, but it's so unbelieveably corny and trite sounding for something like that.

P's other songs involving his most personal tragedies/problems, like I love U But... & The Beautiful Ones were absolutely amazing.

This one sounds like a typical sappy R&B ballad.

The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

I agree it's corny as hell, but that's why I like it razz

It's a run of the mill cheesy Prince love song, apart from the production, I wouldn't say it's any worse or better than his other bile-inducing love song: Adore, Insatiable, Call My Name etc.

His love songs are so OTT, camp as tits! cool

I really dig the song, corny or not.
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

I would hardly compare whatever so-called "personal issue" that prompted him to write The Beautiful Ones with the "personal issue" that was apparently behind Until Ure In My Arms Again. Whatever the case, corny or not, this song always gets to me, especially when I think about what it's about. And I also believe that this is one of the things that makes Prince amazing. Any other artist would have done some gloomy, depressing song. Prince went a different route, and I like the results.

It's not about his dead son for chrissakes. The lyrics contain lines that are definitely about a woman, not a child. Can we just get over this crap? It's just a stupid, badly-written love song with equally terrible lyrics. So there you go, PurpleKnight. Don't feel guilty hating it .

No this song is good. Just stop comparing it to all the other Prince ballads. Every ballad Prince makes you've got someone having a problem with it because it's not an Adore, Insatiable, Scandalous etc. There will never be another Adore, Insatiable, Scandalous and so on and so on. The sooner people realize this, the more likely they will be able to just enjoy songs like these for what they are and stop pitting ballad against ballad. All Prince ballads are not to be compared to Adore and the others they are different. With that said Until Ur In My Arms Again is definitely a good song and one of my favorites.
I'm an org elitist... totally unapproachable.

Give us your view on how its NOT for his son??? You seem to be the "chosen" one that knows this. Explain your view, not just rant like someone talking out their AZZ. Cmon genius, enlighten us....

for those of you like me who may not have heard it before(I see ya'll hiding) wink

Until U're In My Arms Again

All of my life I've never wanted anyone like I wanted U
Every night I said a prayer 2 God and His angels
I'm sure they knew
The many tears that I'd have 2 cry
If I ever had 2 leave your side

CHORUS:
Until U're in my arms again
I know this pain will never end
This broken heart will never mend
Until U're in my arms again

Every mornin' when I awaken, I imagine U sleepin' in your bed
Wrong or right the reason U're taken from my embrace
Well, it's never said
Cuz every day that U don't return
Is another day that my heart just yearns and yearns
That's why…

CHORUS

If life remains a mystery
Then there's no reason 2 the rhyme
And U, U'll never know what U mean 2 me till U're mine, all mine

Until U're in my arms again {x3}

(CHORUS)
Until U're, until U're, until U're in my arms again!
No, ain't never gonna end
Never gonna mend
Until U're back, right back in my arms again

I'll never see like others see
(I know that U'll come back 2 me)
I know U're gonna come right back 2 me (Come on back 2 me)
And this time U will never leave my arms again
(Never leave my arms again)

Until U're in my arms again {x3}
Come on back, baby
Come on back {x2}

Until U're in my arms again {x2}

This song is pretty sad and the fact that it says
"...sleeping in your bed..." does make it seem like it might not be written about a "lover" who would be in "our bed".

ok Im done overanalyzing, back to the "how hot is Prince? threads"

biggrin

First of all, thank you for acknowledging the fact that I am a "genius". On the other hand I strongly detest the fact that you have chosen also to use a biblical expression such as "chosen". And my comment would hardly qualify as "a rant". Thank U.

But in case you are so interested, here's a line from the actual song:

If life remains a mystery
Then there's no reason 2 the rhyme
And U, U'll never know what U mean 2 me till U're mine, all mine

"Mine" and especially "all mine" refer to desire. It's a romantical expression - he most likely wants his lover back. "And U'll never know what U mean 2 me" sounds more like an opportunity wasted, there's a bit of spitefulness about it even. Why would he say that about his dead child? Besides have you ever heard a parent say to their children "you're mine"? As in "Your AZZ is... mine?"

People have interpretated the lyrics of "Wasted Kisses" to be about his dead child and the "wasted kisses" on Mayte, as well. Could be one way or the other, but if it's about what some people claim it to be could be then it's just terribly lousy lyric writing. I'm sure he was aware of the fact that the two songs were going to arise connotations, however there is no clear indication that either song would be directly about his child's death unless he says so. And he never did.

Actually this is true. Yes.

It's just lousy writing then.

Some interesting points raised here - there is such ambiguity in this song that it really can be interpreted in both ways.

The only song I can think of that is (almost) certainly about the tragedy with his baby is "Comeback".

What do I think of this song? Well, its ok, nothing bad about it, but nothing great either. For my tastes, its a bit too "syrupy", but enjoyable enough.
