interesting....aimee mann once commented that wendy and lisa are two awesome (and talented) musicians....and if you listen to the wendy of revolution and the wendy of today you can hear a vast improvement in skills...

but you might have a point, the three of them might have been content with being awesome experimentalist where they stopped perfecting their musical skills..

but today? i think it would be almost too easy for the revolution bandmembers to play what current music prince is making...

just my HO...

It was Prince's music that became less interesting after Wendy and Lisa's departure not theirs. And yes someone will say "Eroica was boring" blah blah blah, but just because you don't understand any complex music, that doesn't make it BORING. Prince's 90's material was pathetic really, save for the stuff he dug out of the vault, where as albums like Seal's or Meshell's Bitter were amazing pieces of music, now, WHO worked on those album's again? hmmm

And what are Seal and Meshell during right now ? Nothing. I think if you look at the lack of succes W&L have had on their own you kind of see the real picture.

Because 99% of the time you talk shit and 1% of the time you are right on. This time you in the 99% range. This band rocks. I don't go to concerts because of the band members personality. I go to hear a rocking band.

I am glad P is playing with good muscians who obviously were not selected because of their looks or personality. The music is what matters.

If you think this band "rocks," then you must think Blink 182 plays death metal.

Notice how everyone talks about how much they love ppl like the original Revolution members or Sheila E., yet never mention the good ol' gang of the current NPG?

It's cause personality in music matters.

It sure does.

I was at a Slipknot show last week, and every band member had personality as well as amazing talent. When I go to one of their shows, I look forward to seeing all of them. When I go to a Prince show, I'm hoping to discover that most NPG members got the axe. I couldn't give a fuck about any of them, except for maybe JB.

Sorry but you have no point. I can listen to any of the music they've created and I'm amazed at their level of music creativity and that's the real picture.

You keep listening to it and continue to be amazed.(LOL). I 'll pass. I think some of you are forgeting that your likes and dislikes are just your opinion.

You have a right to have it but, it sad when you avoid reality.

Bitter was the worst MeShell cd and I put some of the blame on W&L. I loved Plantation Lullibies and it sad that she got mixed up with these two.

I was on another entertainer's messageboard (he's an actor) and I asked if there were any Prince fans there...one person replied and said that they loved Prince especially during the Revolution days and in parentheses she said "does anyone remember Wendy and Lisa"?
So, yep...Wendy and Lisa are DEFINATE legends, and they are remembered by many, many people, even those who do not follow Prince's career as closely as we do...

His honest opinion.

Here's my controversial opinion to follow:

Prince needs to drop the NPG name all together.

When I think of the NPG, I think about the original within the D&P to Hits/B-sides era. And with no derespect, the people in the latest band IS NOT the NPG that I remember.

CORRECTION: Wendy & Lisa was THE Revolution!!!

1) Without W&L, Purple Rain (The Title Track) would have never sounded as good as it did.

2) Without W&L, All Around The World In A Day (the album) would have NEVER existed.

3) Without W&L, some of the songs for Parade, & the 2 prequels for Sign 'O' The Time (The Dream Factory & The Crystal Ball) would have NEVER happen!

When Prince made history back in the 1980's, it was The Revolution that was a special part of that legecy. Of all of the bandmembers, it was (and still is) W&L with the most to brag about!

Now you (or any one reading this) please tell me any past or present members of the New Power Generation that had any kind of impact with Prince as Wendy & Lisa.

And BTW, Tony M. & Mayte doesn't count!
cool

It brings tears to my eyes when someone gets it.

W&L are a lot better than what their critics give them credit for.

I agree Blackwell is an amazing drummer, but the band as a whole sucks. They're nothing more than hired help. There's no family feel like with the Revolution or Lovesexy Band. Back then, each band member had a real personality and people knew who they were. If you mention Wendy, Lisa, Dr. Fink, Sheila E.,etc. people still remember them as members of Prince's band. Who the hell cares about Renato or Mike Scott?

It would be cool if he could get one hot band again and keep them for a while.

But Prince, too, had so much to prove during the earlier years. I question how long that initial fire and drive can last for. whilst i have no doubt in my mind that prince still lives for his music, he has nothing to prove to anybody anymore. He did it all, at a higher level and greater quantity than most. Today, i believe that prince is just slowing down, learning to live a little in the world outside of his mind. Consequently, i think his current band reflects this change. Agreed though, JB is awesome on the drums.

I agree with that. The NPG name alone is just so fuckin corny already. Let's get a fresh start for Christ's sake.

Why do you constantly need to overrate W&L work ? I appreciate what they have done after Prince but there is nothing ABSOLUTELY nothing exceptional in what they have achieved musically speaking after Prince.

I love them, they are very talented musicians but their production and compositions are good, not great.

And if their music is better than most crap Prince has released...It is still far from reaching the greatness of Prine's best...like sign'o the times.

What is funny is that I found out that most of my favourite tunes from The Revolution era are those where Prince composed and played all the instruments by himself.
Il n'y a pas de sentiment plus exaltant que celui d'appartenir à une nation si diverse, si libre et si douée pour le bonheur.

Playing devils advocate here...

ok so are most of those Revolution songs from the 80s, did wendy and lisa write them, and Prince just SANG ON IT? Or were they collaborations? Be specific. What exactly went down, here? Did Prince WRITE the songs, and Wendy & Lisa just ADDED TO each of them, or what? What happened?

People hark to the past coz it's what made Prince famous, back then it was new and fresh and those with the nostalgia feel it coz it was perhaps at a formative time in their lives...
The musicianship of the current band is fantastic, what the negativity expressed here may be more to do with a controlled environment which trickles down to the band... it seems the show went joke by joke, solo by solo the same every night... that maybe why Maceo didn't always give a chill to wasitgood4u... (earlier post).
It maybe that after 6 months or so of that same same thing each night musicians of that calibre aren't as fresh as they might be, there isn't say the spontaneous funky grooves of a Maceo show... there isn't the contact with the audience that there is in a smaller venue, and so many people don't give a hoot about anyone except Prince which in one way is okay, but when Prince is trying to give real music a bite of the apple it's a bit sad that it is ignored, the solos don't get applauded, apart from Sheila's amazing standing ovation in NYC, but she was given room to do step out.
and to be honest the back in the day comments do get a bit boring, ...
