"Good Love" - Prince's 'Scritti Politti moment?' I was just listening to Scritti Politti's Cupid & Psyche '85 album, and I was just looking at some discographies and such, and noticed Miles Davis covered 'Perfect Way' on his 1986 album Tutu.
I know was Prince listening to Miles in 85/86, and I'm sure Scritti Politti couldn't have escaped Prince's notice either, there's definately a twinkling of the MPLS sound in their work. It made me think if 'Good Love' was maybe Prince wanting to make the kind of up-beat synth-pop that Green Garside was so great at, listening to the original 'Perfect Way', I can certainly hear a correlation, not so much a copy, or direct similarity, but a similarity in style and mood. Just a brain-fart, but it's something to ponder next time you listen to Camille's pop masterpiece.

Great. Now I'm gonna think "Scritti Politti" everytime I listen to Good Love.  If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot. | |

It's nice to know that other people appreciate the same kind of music that I do. I seem to be surrounded by people that don't know shit about music. My two best friends are the exception. Scritti Polliti's Hypnotize was one of my faves.
I love GOOD LOVE. I used to sit and wait for this specific "oooooh" in the song. I would repeat it over and over again. My favorite part. i bought scrittis cupid in 86. the connection is the gated synth sound, giving a percussion effect similar to scritti. Cupid and Provision were very tight sequencer wise.
Prince's good love keyboard part may have been played with their sound in mind, but i dont think he took it to the anywhere near the lengths that scritti did. he had done his 5 part layering keyboard with 1998 album. | |

Further connections - Miles played on Oh Patti by SP, a lovely song and wasn't the Tony Lemans album (on Paisley Park) produced by SP? | |
