or ever heard him do it solo in concert JUST at the piano?none of those saxophones,duets,drums etc..ive probs seen this song performed live about 7 times and every time its OTT!

IF I REMEMBER CORRECTLY IT WAS ON HIS 1ST OR 2ND ALBUM (FOR YOU OR PRINCE)

I LOVE THE WAY HE SINGS IT...WITH SOOOO MUCH EMOTION~~~~~

its not on any of my prince cds
nothing from 78 to 86 anyways.

THE QUESTION WAS....ahem has anybody heard just a piano and vocal version of this???or perhaps princes original when he mas amstering the familys album??(the familys album on boot with all ps vocals is missing nothing compares)

I believe that there is no studio version of NC2U with P vocals circulating. I have the Family sessions with the P vocals(my boot sounds like shit). As JonyL stated, NC2U is AWOL.

Prince's studio version of 'Nothing Compares 2 U' is not circulating unfortunately.
It's virtually the same as the unreleased original mix of the Family's version,
only with Prince's vocals instead of St Paul's. There were various mixes of the
song done around that time, and Sinead's cover version is based on one of those
early demo mixes.

As far as I know there's no live versions with Prince just playing it on piano
either (though I haven't heard every single concert Prince has ever done, so I
don't know for sure).

The Family and P versions (that I've heard), just don't capture that same "had my heart ripped out and stomped on" pain. I'd love hear him do a really stripped down acoustic version.

The Hits 1 track 11. Prince and Rosie live taped at an invite only party at P.P.
More simple than the live versions he's played since. I also like the live version from Utrect for some reason. I actually prefer Prince and Rosie's version over Sinead's... here comes the part where someone will definitely slap me for saying that.
