Worst Prince album in the 80's

Perhaps, Prince released his best albums in the 80's.
80) Dirty Mind
81) Controversy
82) 1999
84) Purple Rain
85) Around The World In A Day
86) Parade
87) Sign "O" The Times
88) Lovesexy
89) Batman
I don't really like "Batman".
Which album do u dis-like from the 80's era?

how am i supposed to answer this question? they're all brilliant to me. if i were to say which one i liked the least, my first instinct would be to say "batman", but that wouldn't be true. there are too many songs on there that i love - but on the other hand, it is also home to my absolute top most hated prince song of all time, and that's gotta carry some weight. so reluctantly, i'll go with the batman soundtrack.

oof, i couldn't disagree more. parade's one of my favorite - so happy and at the same time fairly experimental. wendy and lisa are all over that album and i love it. but that's the beauty of prince's work - one person's trash is another's treasure.

PARADE is the Worst! Parade is weak! "Venus De Milo" and "Do U Lie?" sound like elevator music. Prince didnt even like it. Prince said "Parade was a disaster Apart from 'Kiss' there's nothing on it Im particlar proud of. The temptation is to go right back into the studio and make a killer album, but I think half the problem with Parade was that I didnt have enough good material ready. That will never happen again."
Goodnight, sweet Prince.

The problem with Parade are those COMPLETELY forgettable short W&L style songs like New Position.

Still a great album, but one of his less great ones.

ATWIAD is great too, despite being flawed. It's still got timeless songs on it like The Ladder, Paisley Park, Pop Life, Condition...

Batman is easily his worst. An uninspired collection of throw away fluff.

Controversy's underrated! It just happens to fall in between a breakthrough great album and the amazing album that would follow it. It falls in between the cracks.

How can anyone say Dirty Mind? Songs like The Future and Partyman over Head and Party Up?

Oh, dont be so predictable and closed minded. I love the Batman album. That album is funky and really rocks! Vicki Waiting. Electric Chair, Batdance, The Future, even Lemon Crush is a good song. Give the album a chance. If you think the Batman movie was to weird or what ever, who cares. The Tim Burton Batman movies (Batman & Batman Returns) are gothic and spooky.
Goodnight, sweet Prince.

With Dirty Mind Prince wanted to go beyond the trendy pop audience of "I Wanna Be Your Lover". Prince wanted to develop a loyal following. The rough sound and explict lyrics are true to life. Prince said "I realised that I could write just what was on my mind and I didnt have to hide enything." Prince answered the gay issue in Uptown with a firm "No, are you." Dirty Mind, Head, Sister and Partyup are great songs. The album is very liberating and free.
Goodnight, sweet Prince.

Keep in mind, this album was released 10 months after Purple Rain, arguably the best albums of the 80's. WTF!!!

Nuh-uh! tease

While not an avid student of music history, I can't think of many of Prince's contemporaries who had such a prolific and successful decade. It was arguably one of the greatest runs in rock music history.

My choice would prolly be Batman, which would get the nod over ATWIAD only because any album which features 2 songs like "Raspberry Beret" and "Pop Life" is almost per se a "great" album.

I disagree. It has some filler like "Trust," "Lemon Crush" and "The Arms of Orion (possibly the worst Prince song ever released)." But it's stripped down and has some impressive moments. "The Future" and "Electric Chair" stand up over time. "Partyman" has a funky lil' groove that's on par with most if not all of his 90's party jams. "Vicki Waiting" is a sublime treat, and tell me "Scandalous" ain't a vintage Prince slow jam! Even the novelty track "Batdance" is interesting enough, with a funky guitar riff towards the end.

Compared to the rest of his 80's stuff, it isn't as good. But on its own merits, it's no classic, but it ain't bad.
