I have my own interpretation. I like the words in the verses too. I like to think all my enemies will dissapear. "all 7 and we'll watch 'em fall". Kinda nasty really.....
Who knows? | |

The lyrics are referring to the Book of Revelation. In fact, a few of the lyrics are culled directly from it. In a nutshell, Prince is telling his ladylove to stand strong in the face of their enemies, for God is going to destroy the demonic forces of this world (as prophesised in Revelation). ![]() Do not hurry yourself in your spirit to become offended, for the taking of offense is what rests in the bosom of the stupid ones. (Ecclesiastes 7:9)

So, why didn't he just say so. ![]()

Oh my God, I love that song.
I have another thread dedicated to it: http://www.prince.org/msg/7/125613 Actually, the meaning of 7 came up during that one too: 7 is possibly one of his most complicated songs, despite it’s often simple poppy aesthetics. It’s about the seven symptoms of exposure to dihydrogen monoxide. At the time, Prince was starting to believe that Warner Bros. was placing dihydrogen monoxide in Paisley Park’s drinking fountains and at refreshment stands in his concerts. Dihydrogen Monoxide actually dissolves a substance whose scientific name is too long for me to attempt to spell, but it’s commonly known name is salt peter. Salt peter is used by Nasa (and used to be used in Military Basic Training) to suppress the male sex drive. Prince believed that WB was placing a salt peter/dihydrogen monoxide mixture in his drinking supply thereby suppressing his sex drive. Hence, the lyric : They stand in the way of LOVE, and we will watch them fall…He also mentions the “In the distance, an Army’s marching feat” which is his political nod to the U.S. government saying, “if you won’t subject the military to the substance, then why impose it on innocent civilians like me?” Possibly the worse symptom of exposure to dihydrogen monoxide is anal leakage. Hence, the “River of of blood.” Lyric. This is also found in “Melt With U” from the same album, ![]() This obsession actually has not subsided like many of Prince’s various obsession (sex, rap music, buttless yellow power suits), and has actually become more severe after he became a Jehova's Witness. Now he believes that dihydrogen monoxide has been administered to Jesus during periods of his life, and that because it is a trace compound in trees (the primary source of toilet paper), that it is not safe to use toilet paper, which is why he no longer shakes people’s hands with his right hand. http://www.dhmo.org/coverup.html . I think maybe it had something to with the fact alot of people didn't want him and Mayte to be together because she was so much younger than him. Lock the door & kill the phone my camera, U & me alone will make a picture all will see & go "ooh 319!"
