PARADE is the Worst! Parade is weak! "Venus De Milo" and "Do U Lie?" sound like elevator music. Prince didnt even like it. Prince said "Parade was a disaster Apart from 'Kiss' there's nothing on it Im particlar proud of. The temptation is to go right back into the studio and make a killer album, but I think half the problem with Parade was that I didnt have enough good material ready. That will never happen again."

I will be extremely diplomatic and simply say I disagree. The album was a classic and ahead of its time. "Kiss," "Anotherlover . . ." "Girls and Boys," and "Mountains"? You consider those tracks weak?

Wow.

If Prince weren't proud of it he would have never played "Sometimes It Snows In April" on this year's tour. In any event, his comments may have been tempered by the firing of the Revolution, which was no more than a year or two after he made those comments. Newer artists like Jill Scott, D'Angelo, and the Roots, among others, appreciate the genius of the album.

But beauty is in the ear of the listener . . .

Since it must be a choice of these, I'll go with Batman (or go without it, depending on how you look at it).

I would go with The Batman Soundtrack. Although I will go on to say that I really don't think there was a bad album Prince made in the 80's. They were all good to me. But Batman, as good as it was, would have to be his worst.

ATWIAD has a few moments but is by far the weakest of the 80's.
Batman is pretty solid all of the way through, although folks will hate the album based on Arms of Orion alone.

Keep in mind, this album was released 10 months after Purple Rain, arguably the best albums of the 80's. WTF!!!

Hey thanks for the obvious information, was there a point there by the way??

Dirty Mind comes in a close second.

Oh, dont be so predictable and closed minded. I love the Batman album. That album is funky and really rocks! Vicki Waiting. Electric Chair, Batdance, The Future, even Lemon Crush is a good song. Give the album a chance. If you think the Batman movie was to weird or what ever, who cares. The Tim Burton Batman movies (Batman & Batman Returns) are gothic and spooky.

I never liked Batman.

The problem isn't that it's a bad album. But, aside from BatDance, it's an album that could have been performed by Stevie B., Dino, and any number of male performers during that time.

With Prince, you just kind of expect...more. And in the shadows of SOTT, LoveSexy and the like, it pales.

The 80's output I preffer to the 90's stuff and the stuff now, but the question said, if I had to choose . batman suffers by comparison.

I think they're all 4 stars or better, but Controversy gets the least play for me. Most of the songs I love, but it just doesn't add up to a perfect album for me. The rest from that decade I consider sublime.

well you got atleast one person that agrees with you, after 7 brilliant albums in a row, there is no where to go but down. i always viewed Lovesexy as the begining of his slide. Now is it worse than batman, i don't know. They are pretty much neck and neck for me. of course if you put them in the 90's they would be near the top

80) Dirty Mind
81) Controversy
82) 1999
84) Purple Rain
85) Around The World In A Day
86) Parade
87) Sign "O" The Times
88) Lovesexy
89) Batman
I don't really like "Batman".
Which album do u dis-like from the 80's era?

Controversy has the most throwaways.

Right after Do Me Baby, Let's Work, and Controversy, the rest of the album is a waste. cool

I have to say STOP to all the PARADE haters....thats my FAVORITE one. Period.

STOP, I say.

Now, back to your regular broadcast.....

I would have to give this title to LOVESEXY. The "1-track" thing killed it for me... and then, the album is not his most cohesive. Dance On? Please. My favorite from this album is Glam Slam, and u see how far that got him. I'm with everyone else, I love em all, but LOVESEXY is the worst of the 80's.

no. i didnt say BATMAN, i said LOVESEXY

I hate these type of threads. if you keep them going long enough,
every single album will get bashed and after that they will be
torn apart and beaten up song by song until nothing is left to
argue about and the mob moves on to new tabloid pictures of Prince
and Mani to argue over who was the better Prince girlfriend/wife
etc etc etc.

It's a twilight zone loop that we get stuck in every time it takes
more than 6 months to release some new material

Batman was one shitty album. Couple of good tunes, but it was mostly filler ("Trust", "Lemon Crush" barf , "Vicki Waiting", "Arms Of Orion). It was the first time I wasn't blown away by a Prince album. I wouldn't be so underwhelmed by him again until NPS in 1998.

"Lemon Crush" i'll grant ya, even though i love that song..."Trust", though, is the perfect song for a Tim Burton movie, I think. I only wish it had been even more prominently used in the parade scene with the big whimsical/grotesque floats.

But yer right - we could both be correct - it's really a matter of individual perception anyway, ya know?
