1st time I've heard P. was back in '86 because of my older bro' - I hate that music than. I started to dig P. in '89 with Batman era... In 1990 a taped GB album for my brother from a radio. I took one listen, another - my bro' never get that tape and I fell in love 4EVER.

I am 27. I would have to say around 83...(I was 6 or so)....My mom had the 1999 Album, and she had Dirty Mind on 8-track..(didn't really "get" Dirty Mind till later)...but I would have her play Little Red Corvette and 1999 all the time. When Purple Rain came out, it was all over. I DISTINCTLY remember my mom taking my brother and I to see "The Muppets Take Manhattan, while my mom was in the other theatre watching P.R.....I snuck out and peeked my head in the door of P.R> at the time that Appolonia was smacked in the face in the basement, and the light from the outside made my mom turn around. She came up and slapped the shit out of me, and I went back in with my brother.

THEN i knew I was a fan. SERIOUSLY. I needed help lol. I wasn't hardcore til 91 though....When that STRIPPED down version of GETT OFF was released on his birthday...i still ahve it on tape somewhere. lol

The year that Prince became one of my biggest rolemodels was 2003. Yeah, we had our 1-year anniversary sometime in October.

When I working as a mailman(girl) at the post-office they always played the soul&funk radio-station. '1999' came on and that was IT. Of course I've always known Prince but I used to think of him as this mainstream asshole who's just suing everyone left and right. No idea why I got hooked that time cause I've heard that song a billion times before. But now I don't know how I could live without the man. He's incredible.

I think I saw the 1999 video in the spring of 1983 and that raised an eyebrow. I was the one of few that had MTV at the time. I thought Michael Jackson was the coolest. I was at the kick off of the Victory tour in KC sitting 2nd row center.

I tried really hard to hate Little Red Corvette because I thought the cars were and still are crap, but what a song.

1999 takes a while to digest, once I "graduated" to the 2nd 1999 album (A-U-T-Omatic, et al) I was hooked. Funk, rock, alternative, ballads-THIS was my musical education! I didn't need "The Cure", "The Boss", U2 or Rick James when I had Prince! He introduced me to Sly, Santana, Little Richard, Joni and Jimmy Hendrix and I didn't even know it yet.

By the end of the summer I was a DIE HARD Prince fan and so were my friends. By the time Purple Rain came out it was "Michael who"?

I bought all of his albums and basically went through puberty and discovered women in all their glory during this high school period of my life.

By the way-I think Prince made good lovers out of a lot of men as a "mentor". As much as my wife gets annoyed by the fact that I drag her to his shows and still listen to his music, she SHOULD be thanking him for our wonderful sex life.

If you don't get "If I Was Your Girlfriend", "A-U-T-Omatic", "Adore" AND "Erotic City" AND if you haven't gotten down during these songs you do not know what you are missing. Furthermore, you need to pay attention to your mentor.

I remember I was about 5 years old and my dad had the "Prince" album back in 1983. He was in a band at the time and he would play "Why You Wanna Treat Me So Bad" in the house and would practice playing the lead guitar part at the end of the song. When I heard that I wanted a guitar because I wanted to play just like that too. So I've been a die hard fan of this awesome guy since I was climbing trees and playing in the mud. lol.

I remember my brothers watching the video of "I wanna be your lover" over and over again in 1981, I was 10 and liked him already

then in 1985, I saw purple rain, I bought my first album of Prince : around the world in a day (got to be in my top 3 albums) and I became a fan, buying all his albums...

I have to admit that during few years (96-2002) I slowed down, stopped going to concerts, but still bought his albums

I became more addicted than ever since 2002, when I fell in love with another prince fan...
went to a concert with him and lived the best music-mixed-with-love experience !!!

Yeah, I had to justify my love for Prince, but it was always vindicated when I was the only guy dancing with a crowd of women and all the other "cool" guys stood against the wall...watching.

It wasn't until 1995 when I bought The Gold Experience and then The Hits/B-sides that I put it all together. The B-sides are what made me the fan I am today. At that point I started to collect all of his albums and the rest is history.
