Well, the whole prince experience is very confusing. Originally the album had many more segues that explained the story better. The whole thing was meant to be some giant rock-pop-opera and you had to hear the album, see the concert, read the comic and then watch the video to fully understand the story. Nevertheless, the basic story is as follows:

Princess Mayte of Egypt has possession of the 3 Chains Of Turin (the 3 Chains O' Gold). In the concert and the video, the 3 parts of the chain make up the prince symbol. Mayte's father is murdered by 7 men who are after the chains (and possibly the large estate left behind by her father). Realising she is in danger Mayte sees sends the 3 Chains Of Turin to Prince to look after (why Prince? we never know!). Prince and Princess Mayte then become romantically involved and the story becomes totally incomprehensible. In the end, to protect Mayte and the chains, Prince burys the chains (along with his trademark chain hat) and changes his name to prince (though it is doubtful this was the original intent of the story, this probably came after the WB dispute). The power of the 3 Chains Of Turin is never really explained, although I believe it is a symbol of enlightenment (the prince is made up of Prince's famous male-female symbol and an alchemy symbol. Alchemy was an ancient tradition of trying to turn base metals into gold, but it is also a metaphor for transfering your soul to gold/purity etc). Anyway, I havn't really explained the song, but I hope this helps understand the whole concept better!

If u took 100 people and asked them to interpret the bible... they MIGHT all arrive at the same conclusion, but God knows how many roads it would take for each one to get there.
