Backwards message at end of Darline Nikki

Atthe end of Darline Nikki on "Purple Rain" prince says:

"Hello, how r u? I'm fine cause I know that the Lord is coming soon, coming, coming soon."

But he says it backwards...that is what that funny noise is between Darline Nikki and When Doves Cry that I always hated

Just in case ya didn't know

Whatcha think??

Peace

The song is Darling Nikki - spelt wrong in your profile too. The backward recording translation is well-known to fans and it isn't the only occasion of backward masking in his work.

Backward recordings off the top of my head:

In the B-side, 'Girl' the lyrics are also delivered by Wendy - but backwards and with the word 'girl' replaced with 'boy'.

There appears to be some backward masking going on in one, possibly two places in 'The War', but I have never read of a trnslation.

As regards 'funny stuff' Prince has often tried creative ways of recording, using different sounds and different recording techniques, even leaving in unintentional recording errors when he listened to them on playback and liked them. Susan Rogers describes examples which eventually surfaced on the Sign O' the Times album in the book 'DanceMusicSexRomance'.

Also, at the beginning of Baby, I'm A Star you can hear Wendy & Lisa saying stuff like "What the fuck do they know? All their taste is in their mouth!" and crap like that.
