Prince said something interesting about "Let's Go Crazy"... He said (I believe it was in that att Lauer interview) that Let's Go Crazy sounded like nothing else on the radio at the time. Yet it still managed to become a hit in both the Rock and Soul stations. He also went on to say that there hasn't been anything that fast or like that on the radio since.
That's quite impressive. But how did he manage to pull that off? Was it because of his crossover success? I mean, yo, for real, Let's Go Crazy rocks harder than any Van Halen tune and yet it still appealed to the urban markets. I guess it's because it's one of those songs that arrived in the right place at the right time. Anyways, no matter who the song appealed to, it still kicks ass!!!! Epic, Give it away, walk this way for example. DId it crossed over? Walk This Way was a big hit on both the R&B and pop chart. The other two were too far out there to even come near urban radio. They barely contained hints of hip hop and were largely rock songs. Let's Go Crazy did well on both the pop and R&B charts because it was based in both rock and soul/R&B. It's funky as hell and it rocks. It's that easy. | |
