Musicology- The n00b magnet

Recently I have found to be a lot of n00bs on the org. This never use to be, remember the days when he wasn't commerically successful and released stuff quietly (e.g rainbow children). Now instead of sensible threads you have threads like "DID...YOU SEE gRaMMy PrEfORMANCE!!!", Then there are the recurring threads like "OMG SHaUN...OF THE..DEAD PRINCE MENTION!!!1!!". This all seems to happen now with Prince's "comeback". Hopefully After all this hype of Musicology things will go back to normal.

Unfortunately, what you have to realise is that there are a lot of 'human beings' on this planet. Not all of which are eternal beings (like your good self) who have been around since before the creation of the org, and will still be around for years after the org and it's members have all passed on!

'Normal' people HAVE to be new at sometime... I know it's a hard concept for you to grasp but it's true... we register, look out for the latest news and then... we make our first post!!!!

Now, some people are more articulate than others, but bear in mind that people are here for a reason. Most of them love Prince or have a strong interest in his music, and if Musicology got them here, then thats a good thing... surely thats one of the reasons why you release records, then go on tour!

... whats that.... oh sorry, you joined in March 2003! eek And here's me thinking you were one of the oldest and wisest on the org!

The org needs new people!

Hmmm, it shows that you joined in March of '03. If this is true, then you should be aware that this type of dialogue has been going on since the beginning. There's nothing wrong with it. It's just a little more obvious since he's been a little more public.

Before Musicology, any reference to Prince by mainstream media was a major event...

'Normal' people HAVE to be new at sometime... - First off I'm fine with people being new, I hate N00BS ever played a video game? N00b meaning some who acts "all that" but really isn't .

Most of them love Prince or have a strong interest in his music, and if Musicology got them here, then thats a good thing... surely thats one of the reasons why you release records, then go on tour! - This has nothing to do with my hate for n00bs nor why they post crappy threads.

Once again another [snipped - June7] has posted with just noticing the word N00BS. Maybe you should note all the other characteristics of a N00b not just the fact they are new.

I'm just wondering where these awesomely scintillating threads are of yours. If the quality of the threads concern you, you have the option of not patronizing said threads and/or starting your own fascinating threads. Just a thought...

Word. I'm 19 and am a ghost member, who has been here for a year or less. Personally I don't find this thread any more rivetting than something written by a "newbie". Sorry that Prince isn't "all yours" anymore...but the abundance of newbies aint about to stop anytime soon, so get used to it. neutral

everybody here was once a n00b (for those of you who ain't keen on l33t-sp33k, it's "newbie") before they got to knowing whatever they know. it comes with the territory. ain't a damn thing changed. why act so pissed off/miffed about it? instead of shovin 'em off completely (and after you've giggled at 'em a bit, of course), teach them whatcha know. yes, seeing a n00b ask "i just bought a copy of pr, what else should i get?" or something like that for the quadrillionth time is one of the most annoyin things on this site and in this forum, but remember: you were new once as well.

Who cares, we were all 'newbies' sometime (...even me cool ).

It doesn't really bother me when the same old questions keep coming up (I've lost track of the
times I've posted the tracklist to the 'Camille' album or whatever). It's nice to see new people
finding Prince for the first time and exploring his vast back-catalogue of material.

Amen, sister...it's like they feel their elitist status will be "threatened" by the newbies..kinda like refugees. And I do love it when old-schoolers pass on their Prince wisdom. nod

In my own case though, I haven't yet had time to look into all Prince's unreleased material, interviews etc. Maybe that's the case with other newbies too.

I have always considered myself fan at some level....but I had no idea snobbery was also a part of being a true fan or orger...I was excited to find a place to share my latest burst of excitement for the man and his music..."things going back to normal" would mean what? eek

Yes, I agree. Speaking of which, did you see the Prince skit on Saturday Night Live last night? It also featured Beyonce! smile

I cannot wait for the day when Prince, once again, becomes a has-been and nobody recognizes his talent as a musician. That's what he deserves, damn it! Otherwise it just ain't real!
