madhouse.....

Anybody ever hear of this Prince project?? A friend of mine has the record, and it doesn't say Prince on it anywhere. It's got a picture of a woman in a yellow dress on the cover, on the back is the same woman with a dog looking like it's humping her leg sort of.

Anyone know if this is a rarity??

thanks
zach

also, we know it's prince because my friend says it sounds like him, and it was put out by paisley park records.

eye am sure every true P fan knows about Madhouse. From what I have read, the group did consist of himself and Eric Leeds.

It wasn't supposed to be known at the time that it was Prince, but instead an entirely new group on his Paisley Park label. They/he released two albums, '8' and '16' and three singles, "6", "10" and "13". All are fairly easy to find on vinyl but the albums on CD are rarer.

Welcome to the Org.. you must be new wink.

Yes Madhouse is a Prince project.

THe first one, Madhouse 8 was basically Prince playing everthing and Eric Leeds adding sax on top.

The 2nd album Madhouse 16 had Sheila E, Dr. Fink, and Levi Seacer on some tracks in addition to Eric. They co-wrote some stuff too.

Both are very rare on CD... going for like a $100 on ebay. Vinyl is easier to come by.

THere are also several configurations of a 3rd album, Madhouse 24 but I don't think it was ever released.

If you like Madhouse, you should check out Eric Leeds' solo albums...one of which at least is also on Paisley Park.

I love Madhouse 8 persoanlly.

Seeing as the CDs and Vinyl are long out of print anyway, I strongly recommend you go to Kazaa Lite and download the tracks to a couple of CD-Rs. They're all titled by number in successive order (Madhouse 8, ONE to Eight, Madhouse 16, Nine to Sixteen), and the album is extremely popular so it's not too hard to find.

A word of warning though. A lot of users have some bad remixes and knockoffs that they pretend are unreleased tracks from 24, but they're not. I recommend you stick to what was actually released first, and after you're done those, check out the other tracks. After hearing Madhouse it's fairly easy to tell which tracks are fake.

I have both of them on vinyl, a Madhouse 16 CD, and an 8 CD-R. Everytime I try to buy it on Ebay it just goes up a little out of my range. sad

I may have heard of Madhouse before, but I hadn't heard it, and I've been a busy body so tracking it down or even thinking about it eluded me. I ran across the actual album, so just thought I'd ask.

Thanks for the info everybody!!

Man,.....i bought"8" on vinyl a long ass time ago when it first came out, and you all had to get me all worked up to make me buy the cd on Amazon! $150.bucks!!
My girlfriend thinks im crazy for spending $150 on one cd ...but this thing is freaking great! and I had to own the legit original cd.
"8"is the best of the Madhouse bunch by far, "16" is good but kinda bland and the first unrealesed "24" comes a close second. The second unrealesed "24" is the blandest of the bunch.
"A Girl and Her Puppy" from the first "24" is so freaking cool.
Madhouse another in the endless reasons im a such a big prince fan.
even thoe i hate!!!!! the rainbow childen!!!!!
it makes me so angry just to think of that p.o.s.!!!!!lol

One of his best side-projects. 8 is regularly played in my house to this day. I put my old tape on CD a few years ago. I bought 16 on CD back in the day. I am glad I did it since it goes for as much as 8 on ebay. Both of Eric Leeds' Paisley releases (Times Squared & Things Left Unsaid) are worth checking out if you like Madhouse. Especially Times Squared...it might as well be Madhouse 24.

Also try to find The Family. Its hard to find on CD but if you can handle vinyl or cassette they are out there. The Family is St Paul, Susannah Melvoin, Jellybean, and Eric Leeds...but the songs are played and written by Prince (circa Parade/SOTT). You might already know about The Family (all hardcore fans know all too well about this Prince side-project) but thought I'd throw it out there in case you didn't.

So Madhouse 8 and Madhouse 16 are the album titles and were officially released, right? So was Madhouse 24 officially released or not?

And how many albums has The Family released?

Best thing is being a Prince fan in the the early 90's while working in a recordstore.

Both albums came in as SALE items, the faith ANY Prince satellite act suffered from after 1984... Bought the CD's for like 5 bucks a piece. That was before reduction, hehehe

I miss working in a recordstore when it comes to that...
