That's all great and everything. But Chanhassen is in one of the more richer school districts in minnesota. In fact the city of Chanhassen is one of the richest in the metro area. An inner city school in minneapolis could have used the money more, such as South High school. Prince can do whatever he wants with his money, but this donation is like donating to someone driving a BMW.

my sentiments exactly.

Actually Chanhassen does not have it's own school district. Chanhassen is part of District 112 which is located mainly in Chaska. Disctrict 112 includes the cities Chanhassen, Chaska, Victoria, Carver, East Union. Being a teacher, I know the HUGE budget cuts District 112 have been hit with the last three years. Two years ago District 112 had to cut almost $4 Million dollars. It hit these communities hard. To say we did not need this is ignorant. I for one, am NOT rich. Most people are NOT wealthy that live in these communities.

So please, the next time you say that this gift that Prince gave our school, and my son, think. We needed this. In all the years that Prince has lived in Chanhassen, Prince has not given a gift like this ever. And it is much appreciated.

Thank you Prince, and F-you sthoudek.

Peace.

Your a teacher and you need to swear in your post. Thanks. I know that most schools in Minnesota are having to cut their budgets. Some more than others. Some families can afford those cuts more than others. According to the 2000 U.S. Census, Chanhassen has a median family income of $93,092, with 1.9% below the poverty line. Chaska has a median family income of $69,612 with 3.4% below the poverty line. Now compare that to Minneapolis. Median income for a family is $48,602 with 11.9% below the poverty line.

If he would have donated to a public school in Minneapolis it would have been a big deal and and it would have been in the news. The Minneapolis public schools are in serious trouble after 3 years of budget cuts. A $30, 000 donation would have made the news.

Prince did donate to a school in the inner city of Minnie City just a couple of months back. It was listed right here on the org. The school was an artistic school for inner city kids....go back in the org threads and see if you can't find it...or maybe I read it on the NPGMC website...well, anyhoo, I believe that contribution was made during the Minnie City concert dates in June.....
nod nod nod

I'm sorry I didn't read that. Thanks for the info, I'm glad he did.

I would suggest that Prince should donate $30,000 to Tony M, but I know he'd just blow it all on a magical White Castle burger that grants a wish when you poo it out or something.

The coolest part--aside from the donation, of course--is that he has never flaunted his immense generosity over the years, for his own personal gain.
Further proof the Man is not only the most talented and blessed performer on the planet, but a total class act, with few equals. I am thankful everyday that I am lucky to be alive while this beautiful man continues on his amazing journey.

If future generations don't appreciate his music and view him as our modern-day equivalent to Mozart or Beethoven, they will be sadly missing out on something very special.
Peace.

(Totally and utterly off-topic:

Make sure you register to vote ASAP. Many state deadlines have just passed or are about to.
In MN, I think the deadline is Oct 12, which is in just a few days.
Go to your local court house, or to the state website, or even, to Oprah.com--where she has a link to register in any state that hasn't had their deadline expire.
Hurry, we need your voice, regardless of whom you're voting for...)
Sorry if this is not Prince related, but still very important, IMO.

Yes, Inner city kids get the shaft. How brillant of Mr. Bush to launch his No Child Left Behind Initiative, and not give the schools what they need.. I hope Prince remembered the kids that grew up like he did.

I personally am a very generous giver, but i'll b damned if i give one red cent 2 an organization that could solve all of its' financial problems if it just got rid of 50% of the "chiefs". U go P!!! Listen, I really do want inner city kids as well as all children to get the proper eduction that they deserve, but crackin on Prince aint gon help...I still say that it is up to the parents to fight for materials for their kids!

I'm teacher and I cannot swear? What makes you think that a teacher is above using the ocassional f'in-hiemer. What kind of logic is that? I guess it's also my fault that a kid fails a class because his parents don't know how to be parents. Also keep in mind that "Affordable Housing" in Chaska/Chanhassen is $200,000. That's outrageous.

It's not Prince's job to fix economic disaparity....

Jesus Christ, if Prince really wanted to make a difference, he should have donated that $300K to a school/district in real financial need, such as North Hollywood High, Belmont High, L.A. High, or the Los Angeles Unified School District in General. These schools have well over four thousand students on campuses meant to hold about 1500. They are so overcrowded that they can't hold everyone at the same time, so they operate under a year-round calendar. This means long school days (7am-4pm in most schools), and only eight inconsecutive months of school, rather than the traditional September-June calendar. This means less learning. They were built in the late 1800s and early 1900s, and the buildings are old, and fire- and earthquake-hazardous. They have no Driver's Ed. Programs, vocational programs, and the only foreign language option is Spanish, and generally don't offer many higher-level classes (honors or AP), with an exception to the North Hollywood High School Highly Gifted Magnet. Classes can have up to 75 students. North Hollywood hasn't gotten new library books in over five years. LAUSD can't even afford to have student textbooks and a classroom set, so students have to carry all their books to every class, every day. Teachers are underpaid, and we have seen absolutely none of the promised No Child Left Behind monies. In my four years at North Hollywood High School, never once have I seen a new musical instrument bought. Maybe people don't know how ghetto L.A. really is because all everyone sees of Los Angeles is the affluent areas like Beverly Hills. This just makes me sick!!!

Considering Prince is not a Californian, I find your post a little oh, I don't know - out of line??? We have a Governor who has more money than the country has toilet paper and you want Prince to pay for the schools in California? Give me a break - where is John Stossell in all of this.

Prince probably gives to charity on his own, outside of the business aspect, as many people do. I give to charity personally, and also from my business - and no, not the same ones. I live in California and see our tax dollars wasted on stupid things like trying to make the Indian Casinos pay taxes, trying to stop in home support service for disabled, and new smog laws. All I read is blahdy, blahdy, blah!

I totally feel for you chook. Reading this thread made me wanna post for the first time in a looooonnng time. It only takes a couple of idiots to mess up a place where you wanna enjoy reading new info on the man. Saying you dislike a particular song or album is one thing, but cryin about where a person should donate his money to is ridiculous.

Living in California, if anyone needs to fix the LAUSD, it starts w/parents being responsible for their child's education and volunteering with time and materials for their classes and so forth.
That's the first step. Now for all the celebrities who live in the L.A. area, they can certainly contribute sizable amounts to their local schools. Why doesn't it happen? Maybe they don't care. Maybe they're like the governer and pay for private school for their kids. Regardless, if all of Hollywood would step away from one $5,000-a-plate dinner for whatever and donated that to a local school, that would be great. But that's up to them. So you know where that's going.

Finally, the equating Prince with Aladdin syndrome has got to stop (he needs to put his money in L.A., Chicgago, New York, Paris, Ethiopia, the national deficit, Prince needs to set up a casino here, and he better deliver each download and bootleg to my door personally...lol)

He donated to a local school, who cares what the median income of the area is, schools are in trouble almost everywhere, some more than other yes, but we all have to pick a place to help.
Prince could care less what you or I think in that regard.

I do too! Their were parents who live in Laguna Nagile here in California. The school district is well off, however, the parents had a teacher fundraiser to raise over 1 million dollar for teachers who were going to be let go (the parents didn't want their children in overcrowded classrooms and without books). The one million dollars was raised to supplement teachers, books and overcrowding. LAUSD is financially more capable of putting their hands on one million dollar. These parents aren't under LAUSD.
