For years I would have answered this with "Sign O The Times".

But lately, I'm beginning to think it's "1999".

I am not going to stone you as I really like Thunder, Gett Off, and Insatiable. I think this album showcased how versatile his styles can be (Willing And Able, Strolling', Daddy Pop - all very different). As a whole, however, I think Purple Rain or 1999 have fewer 'weak' or 'throwaway' tracks than D&P. Speaking of strong albums, I've really been getting into TGE as of late. Why did I let that one collect dust for almost a decade? And speaking of stoning, read Shirley Jackson's The Lottery, one of my favorite short stories.

"1999" from start to finish. I remember Prince saying he has a follow up album to "1999" in the vault. He needs to go ahead and release it, he would be surprised at how many of the old fans that would come back.

Honestly, I know it's cliche and not many people here would chose it, but I have to say

Purple Rain, it has a good variety of material, some of his best "morphing" songs (the beautiful ones, computer blue), his best ballad ever (title track), a very rich panoramic echoey sound, When Doves cry, which is just awesome, and his best poppy song (Take me with U). My only gripe is that the funk is put on the backburner, but these songs have more of a groove than most rock anyway.

C&D, Come, Rave (yes, I know), Purple Rain (I'm serious), Lovesexy, Emancipation.

I can't pick just one.

I normally answer this with "Sign O' The Times", but the more I think about the uncredited help he received from the Revolution (Wendy & Lisa actually), it leaves a sour taste in my mouth.

Therefore, "1999" has taken the crown as the best PRINCE album.

"Parade" is right up there, too.

what is the extend of the "uncredited help" from Wendy & Lisa? I wouldn't hold that against him too much, everyone has help, Prince might have had more than he's admitted, but every one has co-writers, other people to play SOME instruments some time.

Although this question seems to be asked on this board every 33.3 minutes, I'll again answer it: there is no ONE album. There are three. They are as follows: Purple Rain, LoveSexy, The Rainbow Children.

And then there's The Gold Experience. I think Emancipation is a piece of trash made for no reason, other than commercial.

Luv & Peace,
