it's okay. i'm glad i have it, but if i'd have looked at someone else's copy first, i might not have decided to order it. for one thing, the type is miniscule - i can hardly read it (and i have 20/20 vision) - and it's peppered with typos and factual errors. i do believe the uptown folks did the best with the resources they have, so an "e" for effort to them on their hard work...but i think they have a ways to go before they have a nice, polished product ready to go. i'm almost inclined to advise you to wait til they put out next year's edition, in hopes that they'll make some much-needed improvements.

If you need a reference book...this is the one to have. It really covers all of the songs/albums/side projects/shelved projects/concerts. A great section devoted to Videos and album descriptions and Not too much speculation and such.

I am ok with typos..whatever...BUT it seriously needs....

Larger Font
Hard (or more stiff) cover
AN INDEX (please...pretty please with sugah on top)
Errors corrected.
Bigger in physical size
Better paper

I'm glad I own it though!

Despite errors etc (which will inevitably be ironed out over time) it is unquestionably the most comprehensive single reference source on Prince's career.

I have it and it's a great resource. I agree with some of Anxiety's reservations, there are errors and typos. The biggest gaff has to be that December 1999 is completely absent from the chronology!! omfg

i agree with what everyone says, and i really don't mean to browbeat the folks at uptown - i've worked with them in the past, and they're really nice people who have a heartfelt love of all things prince and who have a sincere desire to chronicle the man's life work. still, for the price they're asking, i think they should spend a bit more time on quality control and making their product more accurate and user-friendly. i think "the vault" is a work in progress, and that one of these years, we're gonna get a book that will amaze us on many levels. that time just hasn't happened yet.

if i recall, it's $65.00....which is fine for the information that's packed into the book, but i was under the impression that it would be a monster of a thing - when i got it, it was little larger than a decent sized dictionary or desk reference, with tissue-thin pages and microscopic text size.

Obviously a lot of cost reductions taking place, which is understandable as its not going to sell in its millions...

I think I will get it... The last Prince book I ever bought was Imp of the perverse many years ago... anyone remember/still have that?
