I'd be really proud of him too, even though I already am really proud of his accomplishments, off-stage antics notwithstanding.

No, Call My Name should get song of the year, or AT A BARE MINIMUM, best RNB song.

When do the concert "give-aways" end?

Check this out, Prince will win album of the year. He will perform on Grammy night and put the naysayers to rest when he receive his award 4 album of the year. U can bet no one will be saying that “Usher should have gotten it” the truth will speak 4 itself. If they don’t base it on sales Prince has a good chance of winning a few more awards. LOL Lots of people young and old brought Musicology. This is P’s year. When Usher made his album the critics knew that he was inspired by P. Going up against Prince will not be easy for Usher, and Usher knows it.

Prince has gone thru so much and has taken so much shit from the media and music critics alike. He has survived and came back kicking ass. We know he never went anywhere, but they want to call it a comeback so be it. The music industry know Prince and what he’s about. The music he made in the middle and late 90’s was not as bad as they made it out 2 be. They were hating P during that time with the name change, slave on his face, speaking out against the industry the hole bit. The industry more or less black balled him and still denying his music. But when it comes 2 talent, there’s no denying him. Musicology may not be his best but it’s worth owning. The man is brilliant and no one can argue that. They will gladly welcome the genius because the Grammy’s has gone down. Lots of people watched the Grammy’s this year because word was out that Prince was going to perform. They r still talking about his performance. When was the last time Prince showed up at the Grammy’s? Trust and believe Ushers knows he’s not up against Justin.

Musicology, to be honest, is the kind of album that the NARAS likes to honor at the ceremony, so it's not out of the question that Prince just may win it. Like many have been saying, it's been his year.

I think Musicology could have a strong chance. Besides, after that little cocksure bit he did at the MTV awards, about the competition between him and Justin, that turned me off. I wonder if it bothered others.

If Prince wins an Album of the year Grammy for Musicology I will officially lose ALL respect I had for the Grammies because Musicology is probably the third worst album Prince has ever done.

I don't believe in awarding people for past accomplishments with present awards.

So that an individual or a fan can see acknowledgement of what he or she likes. Kind of like a validation. So that U "know" there's a reason U like the music...it's award winning goddamnit.

First of all the Grammy's are not about the best record or the one that sold the most records it is about the record company with the most money to pay for the award. In other cases it is about repaying older artists that did not get Grammy respect in their heyday.

James Brown won a Grammy for Living IN America which was one of the worst JB songs ever.

Janet Jackson (Control) lost to Paul Simon (Graceland) in 1987 when Control was the most played record of the year and had more #1's.

U2 (Joshua Tree) beat MJ (Bad) and Prince (SOTT) for album of the year when Bad had more #1's and SOTT was more acclaimed than U2 but U2 was the "darling" of the music biz that year.

sorry i should have explained myself better. what i should have said was that it's would be great if P did get nominated, even win! but i think to be speculating this early can only be a bad thing especially if he doesn't even get on the ballot.
plus i don't think Musicology (as much as i may like it) is Grammy winning material. if they give it to him, it would only be out of sympathy or respect. i always seem to remember these kinds of early hype never panning out in the end.

i agree. it's been cool to see how musicology 'topped' the charts, but that's mainly because of the fact that concert goers have been 'sold' the album via ticket bundling. how many of us have more than one copy, btw?

i think it would rock if prince were recognized at the grammys though

You actually have respect for some show that's funded by "The Industry" just to sell more records??
Those Grammies are paid for... Not deserved... It's all part of the big promotion wheel to sell their products to gullible viewers...
And it's just to serve as an egoboost for their products (or "artists" as they like to call them) dished to them with fake smiles, fake praisings and all that hoopla, pure affectation... And the saddest thing about it all is that their products actually believe in it...
As if having a Grammy means anything or has any worth... Didn't Milli Vanilli win one? 'Nuff said...

So it would take a Prince win for you to lose all respect for an organization that's been doing exactly that for years now? OK.

What categories does Prince potentially get nominated for? Here are the possibilities I came up with:

Album of the Year - Musicology
Best R&B Album - Musicology
Best Contemporary R&B Album - Musicology
Best R&B Song - Call My Name
Best Male R&B Vocal Performance - Call My Name
Song Of The Year - Call My Name
Record of the Year - Call My Name
Producer of the Year - Prince - Musicology
Best Short Form Music Video - Musicology

And the possibility that he gets the Legend Award or Lifetime Achievement Award this year. I'm not sure what the difference is between the two.

Any other categories he could get nominated for? Any that he has no chance at a nomination? Which of the above does he have a shot at winning?

I'd think Best Male R&B Vocal Performance is his best shot.

Who knows what will happen. Its a long way off yet. Come Feb when his tour is well off the road and the album is no longer in the limelight, he will soon be forgotten. The likes of Usher can keep their flame burning by simply playing the media game for 6 months. We all know P wont do that....

But, having said that, what is to say that there wont be another P album out there come the Grammys. Sure, it wont be eligable (unless he releases it in the next couple of weeks), but it may have enough momentum to keep his "star" shining.....

Anyway, the Grammys and all the other awards out there are simply a product of the music industry congratulating itself and awarding itself with lots of exposure. P doesnt exactly fit into the industry machinery these days does he.....

There once was a golden idol that went 2 the winners
Needless 2 say, it didn't make 'em feel any less a sinner
Cuz the very next mornin' the whole damn world was the same
Yes it was
The idol's still shinin' but the voice inside it said,
"There ain't no winners in this game"

U only know what u know
U only see what your heart will show
U only love when your soul remembers
We all come from the same December
And in the end that's where we'll go
So let's go

The Same December prince yes

Who cares? I stopped watching these awards shows many years ago. They only give Grammys to the biggest-selling albums anyway.Which of course means that a loser like Usher is gonna take home several awards disbelief

Given the history of the Grammys, I think Prince has a chance at Best Album. Personally, his isn't my pick for Best Album or even a candidate for that category (I'd still go with Van Lear Rose as the deserving best album in the past year).

I like Musicology, but it's the kind of album the Grammys love. There are three primary reasons that make it a good candidate: 1 - it's a seasoned veteran making a commercial comeback (like Bob Dylan, Steely Dan, Eric Clapton, etc.), 2 - it's very middle of the road and adult-oriented (Norah Jones) and 3 - he's deserved it in the past and has never won it (again Eric Clapton and Bob Dylan).

I think he's got a good shot at it, but we'll see in January when the nominations are announced.
