Am I the only one who wants Musicology to Blow Over?

I'm tired of it already.

no im with you. The sooner Prince gets back to a conceptual approach to music and album releases (the worse for his regained popularity) but the better for me and my current taste in music. The previous mention of an acoustic hits album i believe will please both my desires and the new legions of positive (yet fickle) critics.

Since I love PRINCE's voice, I can listen to Musicology again and again. When I first got it, I listened to it non-stop, but now I find myself listening to his older stuff and dancing to his older stuff. It still sounds new to me!!

As to the question posed: I haven't listened to it in months. But at the same time I don't begrudge the man his success, in fact I'm happy for him. He'll throw his listeners a curve sooner or later...he always does.

Musicology2004

i love musicology but have stopped listening to it for the last 2 months and been discovering his older stuff now since i am new to him. afterall im only 16... lol... it depends on themood im in i guess.... if i want somehting somewhat relaxing or quieter i'll go with rainbow children, if i want old school its dirtymind or controversy, if borderline hiphop/r&b its symbol or musicology or rave. it all depends on my mood. so i guess i cant say that im sick of it, its just theres so much prince material that i'm constantly changing what im listening too

Actually, I wish he'd release more songs from Musicology as singles!! This album, admittedly one of his best selling albums in a long time, can sell even more if he'd release more singles from it!!

Actually I didn't start listening to the album until after the tour came to my area. So, no I'm not tired of it becuase I just started listening to it.

If you're tired of it, don't listen to it.

It just strikes me as very odd that a lot of fans would rather:

- complain about what he isn't doing right to be commercially successful
- rag on him for stuff like the Rainbow Children and NEWS
- complain about how he needs a publicist, manager, etc., record contract with [insert record co name with popular artists]
- talk ad nauseum about how he'll never have a hit again, and how he should be working with so and so
- complain about how the Jehovah Witnesses' are the reason for whatever issues he's having at the time
- talk about how he should get the Revolution back together
- see him struggling and having a hard time if it and make fun of him for not being successful

than enjoy the resurgence of popularity and success he's going through now. After being on this site, amp or the old PML and PPML for the last 10 years I'm happy for the guy. And I'm not going to begrudge him one nanosecond of praise he's getting these past months.

I am not ready for it to blow over. For the 1st time in over a decade I am seeing Prince get consistent positive press and I love it. Between TV appearances, simulcasts, actual concerts, Prince nights at the club and so on, It just keeps going strong. I LOVE IT. For the 1st time in over 10 years, acquaintences (and close friends) are familiar with what Prince is doing. I'm no longer explaining to people "no, he's not retired, he actually just put out an album" lol

It's Prince, he'll get back to his quirky side any day now. We all know this. I, for one, am just enjoying his time back in the spotlight as much as I can cos who knows if/when it'll ever happen again. And after the years I've given his career and the life he's given to us, I think we ALL deserve this moment.

I'm not sure if you understand.

I don't listen to it. I didn't like it much to begin with.
I can't recall the last time I DID listen to it.

When Is say, "blow over" I mean all the hype behind it and the crap these websites keep spewing about it. It's time for an announcement from NPGMC abou t a forthcoming album, in my opinion.

And if Fans would rather do the things you reference above, well decenting views and debate are THE reason I'm always on the ORG and not haunting NPGMC

If Prince would have had decenting view wtihin his own inner circle, maybe we wouldn't have had to put up with Jughead or 1999- The New Master.

I totally agree with you. In fact, I hope this goes on into 2005. This has been the most fun I've had as a Prince fan in 10 years too and I don't want to see it go away anytime soon. Prince has been long overdue this and I want to see more of it as the year goes on.
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

I'm with asianbomb on this. I don't listen to the album either, but I wish the hype surrounding it would go away. As soon as he releases something else the media will knock him down again,
but maybe then we'll stop reading reviews talking about his triumphant Grammys set...blah, blah, blah, return to Purple Reign nonsense...

Return to the studio and make something with live drums and loads of guitar on it. (Release an album of unrefined demos).

The sad fact is: It ain't over...I'm sure Musicology will have a European run. Then the tour DVD will come out (after selling us a few more clips at NPGMC).
Roll on Crystal Ball 2. All is forgiven...I'd rather have a nutso 5-CD collection...

As Mr. Heron said, Ain't No New Thing. biggrin A lot of Prince fans are every bit as contradictory as they criticize him for being: for years a lot of them wanted him to have mainstream success with a big selling album and tour - a return to popular prominence. But when he does they can't stand it and want him to go back to being that secret thing (the pop market had no clue he was still productive) whose work nobody in the mainstream press paid much attention to because SONY had nothing to do with it, etc.

Actually I do understand, which is why I posted what I did because you, sir/madam, tumble full speed into into one of the catagories that I referenced. Furthermore, Mr. Nelson has made songs just as bad as the two you named long before those two were even recorded. So let's not start with the "everthing released until 1989 was perfect" debate.

Again, your not making any sense. But I'd take it you'd drink out of Prince's butt crack if he'd allow it. As for the "catagories", you fit into some really sad and depressing ones as well. I guess what I'm trying to say is that you are evil, your mother is ugly and evil too. just plain evil. EVIL !!!!!

When I first got my hands on Musicology, I could play it all day. I have now returned to the older stuff since I am a reformed Prince fan. I have a lot to catch up on, thankfully my husband is a die hard Prince supporter and I can have my pick at his stash. I have seen the Musicology tour multiple times and I just can't get enough of him. It would not matter if he just jammed out on the guitar on stage, my thirst will never be quenched. guitar
