SOTT TOUR-No Show In US I remember being pissed because LIL MAN didn't tour in the US in support of this critically acclaim album whom many critics and fans consider HIS GREATEST ALBUM. Some people within Prince's inner circle feel this is one of the greatest mistakes of his career. We did get a concert movie though docementing the greatness of P and his SOTT band. Anybody else here in America get upset because this tour didn't make it to the states in 1987??? I remember reading a review of his concert in Rolling Stone and looking at the brief overview of his set list and saying "Man I hope the tour makes it back over here".Who knows... the momentum of this album might have been different if tours here in the States in support of this album.

I believe that this was a big mistake. I thought that Prince would have reached a higher level of "Icon-ess", plus it would have made the album soar to the top faster and lasted there much longer. The movie was great, but ain't nothing like the real thing baby! __________________________________________________

Then he tours for Lovesexy which couldn't have sold as many albums as SOTT. Don't get that at all. Those two tours back to back, wow, he was the shit. ______________________________________________

I was way P.O.'d. I too read that review in Rolling Stone and I was salivating. I REALLY wanted to see that show.
Prince got pissy I guess because by the time the tour in Europe was ending, SOTT was falling down the charts in the states and "IIWYG" wasn't charting. Of course, after he decided to drop the US, "UGTL" and "ICNTTPOYM" became top 10 hits here. Oops.

IMO...I think if he'd started the tour in the US, and then took it to Europe....released Lovesexy and toured the world again, I think he would have got to Purple Rain size superstardom, but "worldwide".....I mean if he started the SOTT tour in the US when the SOTT single was released, done 6 months US, releasing the next 2 singles during. Then went Euro, it would have snowballed right through Lovesexy aswell.
I didn't see it either.....had the tickets and he cancelled

If i remember correctly the excuse given for why SOTT was not toured in North America was because the stage setup would not fit properly in the arenas.I agree though that it's a shame it didn't happen. Popularity wise, things may have turned out differently. I did enjoy the Lovesexy tour though. I saw that at Maple leaf Gardens In october 1988.

I was dissapointed that Prince never brought his 'Sign O'The Times' tour to the U.S. That album was well-received by critics and fans alike, and three of its' singles went Top 10 ("U Got The Look" reached Number Two). There was so much momentum with that album,a fall 1987 tour would have made perfect sense. There were rumors that Jill Jones was gonna be his opening act.How cool would that have been?
