...Prince teams with Beyoncé for a sizzling production number...}}}

With (or without) delay, Grammys are ready to roll
By Edna Gundersen, USA TODAY
There might be a bootylicious Beyoncé, a dirrty Christina Aguilera, even a body-rocking Justin Timberlake. But if they flout CBS' broadcast standards, you won't see it. The network, which aired Janet Jackson's peek-a-boob stunt during Sunday's Super Bowl halftime show, installed a tape-delay procedure to cut inappropriate footage.

Justin Timberlake is free to rock his body at the Grammys but only up to a point. CBS is standing by with a tape delay procedure.

By Robert Hanashiro, USA TODAY.

And don't expect a nasty Janet Jackson at all.

Jackson, slated to introduce a tribute to Luther Vandross, will not appear at Sunday's Grammy Award. Publicist Steven Huvane told CNN, "We don't think she's going to go."

Producers Pierre Cossette, Ken Ehrlich and Walter Miller intend to abide by decency standards while not quashing free expression on this year's 3½-hour show, airing at 8 p.m. ET/PT from the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

"This is network TV, and we want to be respectful and ethical," says Recording Academy president Neil Portnow. "On the other hand, we're about music and the arts, where there's a degree of unpredictability, a huge level of creativity and sometimes an interest in being maverick. We have to find a way for those things to coexist."

The Grammys, which could snag a ratings bump from curious viewers, will showcase a wide array of artists and genres. Timberlake, Jackson's facilitator in the halftime prank, joins the Black Eyed Peas on Where Is the Love? and jazz trumpeter Arturo Sandoval on Señorita. The White Stripes tackle Seven Nation Army. Prince teams with Beyoncé for a sizzling production number. And Christina Aguilera warbles self-esteem theme Beautiful.

Other highlights

• An 11-minute funk medley, the longest segment in Grammy history, has Earth, Wind & Fire, Outkast and George Clinton.

• Celebrating the 40th anniversary of The Beatles' debut on The Ed Sullivan Show, Sting, Dave Matthews, Pharrell Williams and Vince Gill will team on I Saw Her Standing There.

• After honoring icons lost in 2003, Emmylou Harris, Dwight Yoakam and Jackson Browne will toast the late Warren Zevon.
The greatest live performer of our times was is and always will be Prince.

Remember there is only one destination and that place is U
All of it. Everything. Is U.

Hey u may not like Beyonce, but she is big at the moment and could help Prince's current position in music. But i would rather have him perform on his own, cause well, Beyonce ain't funky enough, but at least he's gonna be there woot!

If they had to team Prince up with someone, it should've been the Foo Fighters. But the Grammy people are probably so out of it, they don't know that the Foos have a hit with "Darling Nikki".

Some people/orgers will never be satisfied...I wanted to see him and his NPG band too...But I think this is gonna be great...

I mean come on people...He's gonna be on THE GRAMMIES...THIS IS PRINCE.remember...the artist that some people(mainstream audience) believe to be dead. Anything other than that can only be deemed as a step up.And he is gonna appear on a show that will be viewed my millions of people

A lot of Prince fans have been complaining over the years...that they want to see him back in the mainstream again... Well...

With all love to Prince it's kind of doubtful that they would have let him perform by himself as he has not had a hit in 10 years and the Grammy's are all about what's hot.

Notice that EWF and George are being paired with Outkast?

Well, I hate Beyonce cause her whole attempt at being sexy just comes off contrived, but hey, why should we complain?

The simple fact of the matter is, Prince is going to perform with a HUGE current act.

That just means more attention rightfully coming towards Prince.

How often does Prince perform someone else's song? Perhaps this is a preview of an album to come?

ughh, terrible terrible!!!
Sorry but Beyonce's voice is annoying as hell to me.
Never liked her even since her days with Destiny's Child.

This reminds me of the disapointment when Prince teamed up with Larry Graham at the Essence Awards for "The Christ".
Yet, Beyonce and Larry are on two different levels.

I dont get it, seriously a disapointment...
BUT... I'm going to have a little faith in our guy.
Prince expects nothing but the best from his musicians, and strives 150% in everything he does.
I just hope Beyonce can handle this. And Yes, I do hope that something like this does give Prince a little recognition. The idea of him outstaging Beyonce does give me a little bit of a smirk, but it would be much more of a treat to see him alone with his crew, doing his own thing.

As far as prediction...
I'm almost hearing them dueting on "Adore"..I don't know why, just a feeling I got.

I kinda wanted to see Prince rock out by himself, too, but I guess if I had to choose a mainstream, female pop artist for P to perform live with it would be Beyonce. She may not be too great, but she's definitley a step up from Britney or Christina. (even though I doubt P would be up for that! ewww)

Whatever goes down better be FUNKY...can't wait to see it!

He admires Beyonce, remember on the NPGMusicclub website when he gave her a shout out saying she reminded him of a young Tina Turner?

This is a great pairing. I hope they duet on a classic like Take Me With U or Diamonds and Pearls. I just want him to rock the house and show every1 who the 'f' he is.

What would be a good duet?
I wish u heaven

I see this as another "hey an old artist needs a crappy young one to so next gen knows of you"

janet just did it..
madonna did it..
even Christopher Cross did it with Nsync.

It just looks like a "I need you please let the kids know who I am"..

Also

Beyonce can't sing! She does though chimpmunk vocal gymnastics

*** Prince this is important IF you care? You gotta atleast do a song with LIVE Instruments & mostly Guitar! He might be the ONLY main musican that is going to play live and has the skill to do solos!

he can really stick it to the music industry and show HEY I have talent and you push "hillary duff" rolleyes

Jazz

I don't want to say it.
I don't want to believe it.
But I have a bad feeling about this.
Kinda like Prince getting into rap. When he makes a conscious attempt to integrate with the mainstream it goes bad. He doesn't fake it very well. That's the blessing and curse of a true artist.
He was a hit in the 80's because what he wanted to play just happened to coincide with what the mainstream wanted to hear. He can't be Madonna and follow the pop public.

If he was being true to himself AND wanted to generate a ton of positive buzz, He would have been a suprise guest in the funk jam and tore the house down with a blazzing guitar solo or a nasty bass line, maybe played a bit of a new JAM (if he has something that would qualify) and then just waved and left like the enigmatic genius he is.

dont you find it weird how so many performers at this years grammys are linked to prince in some way? i mean, either influence or whatever

foos have covered several prince songs
outkast - that ones obvious
as is justin timberlake, beyonce and pharrell williams

and earth wind and fire, george clinton...prince has collabed with them

dont you think its just weird? also that he's not included on the funk tribute!!!

so enough of the bitching about him performing with someone who is one of the hottest stars on the planet who is going to kiss his ass and get him in the headlines again, what song do you think they'll do. as it seems they are doing an up-tempo song according to a source on another thread on the org?

i thought something liek how come u dont call me, but obvious its not up tempo. i hope not take me with u simply cos its becoming like a signature song thing...

Well hold on people. We don't even have a clue as to what the "collaboration" between Beyonce and Prince will be. It could be something brand new, or it could be something old. It could be something old from Prince (maybe something from Purple Rain) or it could be an old cover. Fact is, we just don't know. I'm not about to get upset over something that I have no knowledge of.
