Another Boot Site Closed

In addition to Guide2Prince.org, add smallclub.org (Essential Bootlegs) to the list. I was just there yesterday and it was up. Today, there's a nice little message saying they've been contacted...

Me thinks that if he'd release more material, alot more material, those boot sites would become less of a nusiance to him. But present time, those boot sites are the only ones willing to dish up gems like "Rebirth of the Flesh", "There's others here with us", and countless other rarities.

I mean, why would anyone want to go out and download one of those tracks if they could download it from NPGMusicclub (or better yet, iTunes) and recieve a superior quality sound?

Shutting down these sites as well as tracking down KaZaa users wouldn't protect nearly the amount of revenue he would make off of just simply release the material ligitmatly. Me Thinks.

I know the people that own/run those sites probably don't have the assets or even the desire to do it, but I wish people would stand up to him when he does bullshit like this. There's absolutely nothing illegal about these sites, and Prince needs to be taught a lesson that just because he doesn't like it, doesn't mean they don't have the right to exist.

What a shame. Just as Prince is getting ready to put out an album, and get a lot of critical acclaim as the R&R Hall of Fame induction approaches... he goes and fucks up again. What is it with this guy? What a douchebag. As I've said before. He'll waste no opportunity to squander the good will and support of his fans and the public. Fucking moron.

A little off topic but,

Around 1995, I quit giving a damn about Prince bootlegs in general. He was writing a lot of cool songs and I knew that his contract with WB was coming to an end. I simply quit trying to track down any boot recording of his because he was already talking about how he was gonna make all of thia music available as soon as he "gets free".

What followed after that? rolleyes "Emancipation", "Crystal Ball/The Truth", "The Vault", "NPS", and a lot of other crap ("Rave" etc.)

I should have continued in my search to track down all those classic bootleg recordings, but I guess I was trying to give ol' boy the benefit and all. The guy has no business sense WHATSOEVER!! wall
I'm sick and tired of the Prince fans being sick and tired of the Prince fans that are sick and tired!

Well, and i saw that people on other sites mentioned other sites in their forum, just when there seems to be a hunt going down for anything similar to G2P.

Normally I would agree that artists take down illegal material but the site isn't illegal at all. Another thing; some of his fans never got the chance to see certain tours; like me; and I'm very glad that I was able to hear some stuff through people that owned bootlegs. And let's face it; although his new records are not all worthless, they are not appealing to the new generation and will hardly gain him new fans.
His forte is still his live performances, but except for going to the occasional concert and the dissapointing ONA-live; there is not much opportunity to see the man give his best.

Not caring for commercial succes is one thing, but not wanting any fans... what's the bloody point? And his "I don't care"-attitude won't last when his fanbase is reduced to the level that his income gets to an alltime low and he won't be able to play around in his paisley park. How egocentric artists may be - they will always need/want an audience.

I think the reason most people get upset over this, besides that it exposes a not all that great attitude, is that eventually; prince is coming down on people who provide him with the luxury/resources of being able to make music how, when and where he likes... and after all; what we crave the most is for the man to make music, music and more music.
no fans = no money = less/no opportunity to create art and give it to the public.

I hear that he wants to close down cnn.com, because he thinks terrorism is bad and they have news about it sometimes on that site.

Maybe Prince was thinking "hey I want to release some shit from the vault, but I want them to get MY track list, not a far superior collection like The Work, so I should shut down informational sites that would help people find these far superior collections".

But something tells me he wants everything he does to be secret to the point where I don't even know what the hell he is up to.

I'm here for Music:Non-Prince now.

Ah but their website just says they've been contacted by P's legal team and they are temporarily closed.

No one has posted one of these actual letters to these sites. I think we should hear exactly what is being said to them. It may not be "Close or we will crush you" like everyone thinks. It may just be a polite request. We don't know. Sure are quick to call Prince an a-hole tho. Nice.

Okay, flame me...NOW

Paisley Shark chumps and chumps at his paisley fams but when he is fed ($$$) the Paisley Shark chumps again never satisfied. Like a spoilt child he needs constant attention -the paisley shark will always eat your bank account.

Let the internet sites exist if only giving details on the unreleased material - where is the wrong in that? Keeps the sites on the web for people who won't or can't pay the bills(NPGMC)!

Or why doesn't Prince just release all the information himself on tracks, unreleased albums, create his own unreleased website with all his tracks to listen to. That's what I thought when his site got started. Or he could write his own book, his life, recordings everything, get it all out - then the people who are interested will be a rest, but it will cost you because the Paisley Shark will eat you bank account - but the bootlegger will also do that, it's your choice.

When you get older, lets see how much hair and splits you have. I happens to everyone. Prince is only human and is not exempt from the effects of time.

Dear Prince Fan:

Prince is concerned about his bootlegs so intensely because he is incapable of making music anymore that compares to the better songs in the vault. He is incapable of making a truly good album anymore-that is why it has almost been 3 years since a proper studio album. The musicianship is still there,in concert, but the songwriting abilities are gone. Dried up!

Prince has contempt for you. He likes your money, and your massaging his vanity, but he has utter contempt for you. He wants to keep the vault stuff from you even though he isn't making any plans to release it(the bootlegs just show how good he USED to be) and no record companies are looking for mouldy 80's linn drum/synthesiser dated stuff. They want the next big thing.

He's washed-up, bitter, isn't driven by the things of his youth, and he sees his fans the same way he did WB Records- a $$$ resource he has contempt for.He lacks the intregity to give you the best he can, what you want. Your loyality isn't repaid.

Bet you anything you see a greatest hits tour this year because that's all he has left to sell-memories!

you know - the only people buying bootlegs are the ones who aleady own all of the official stuff. I don't think the people who buy boots are taking money out of Prince's pocket - in many ways bootlegs help to keep an artist like Prince relevant to his fanbase. Also, if P was ever to make some official releases of this stuff, we'd all buy it.

I think sites like smallclub.org perform a real service. Prince is one of the most bootlegged artists out there and it's impossible for fans to know which boots are worth their hard-earned cash without the help of sites like this.
