Aftershow material was mostly instrumental, taken MOST likely from Xpectation & N.E.W.S. We just did not know it yet.

Kat Dyson did a song as well as Cyndi Lauper. Prince did a long version of 1 + 1 but with very minimil lyrics. He rocked "Sign O the Times" at the aftershow though.

There you go.

Ideally, he should have done the following.

Disc 1

1) Full 3 hour set from Las Vegas gig
2) Bonus Songs from other ONA gigs (i.e. Muse to the Pharoah)

Disc 2

1) Compilation of best songs from all 2002 aftershows (90 Mins)
2) "Automatic" from ONA aftershow in London 5/10/02
3) Prince 10 min Interview
4) ONA Concept
5) Interviews with Maceo Parker, Candy Dulfer and John Blackwell

I would happily pay $35.00 for this 2 DVD edition!

I wish..I wish...I wish there was some behind the scenes stuff on this DVD. Prince backstage...Now that would be cool. I hope there are some special features on this DVD otherwise it is a wasted opportunity.

Man, it never fails with you guys. Is it possible for you to be happy with anything Prince does. How about taking a wait and see approach. Maybe things will work out. I don't know. It seems like a lot of you spend a lot of time being miserable.

As far as I am concerned, I don't feel miserable at all. I'm just a little angry because ONA was such a great tour and I really would have digged owning a whole show on DVD.

An edited, shortened setlist with possibly bad camera work is simply a huge disappointment.
He's free now and acts as if he's more open to fans than before. He would be free to release such a fantastic 2 DVD set that LondonGuy proposed. It would cost him not much and we would be raving in enthusiasm.

I simply do not understand the sense in releasing such a teaser-DVD.

It's hard to stay optimistic if you read that news but I really really hope this is not the last word and the actual DVD looks different.

The inclusion of Strollin'/U Want Me makes up for anything else as far as I'm concerned. This is all I wanted!

But I don't get it, because he didn't put that in the set list until the European leg. How could it be from a Las Vegas show??

If this is really the tracklist of the dvd - i can't believe it.
What about "the question of U", "xenophobia" and the whole encore with "all the critics love U in las vegas" and "days of wild".
I can't believe it.
Sorry to say this but this would be silly.
I'm really angry about it and I don't now If I will buy it.

How can one NOT expect this DVD to be edited like shit??
When was the last time Prince released a full concert on video?
Right... 18 years ago ("Purple Rain" show...)
And it will never happen again...

(There were about 12 minutes edited out of the "Livesexy" video releases (of which about 3 minutes are truly amazing and about 9 to 10 minutes are just crowd noises)

(The full show was aired live so everyone who taped the original broadcast have the full show...
I still watch the original broadcast over the official releases)...

UN-FUCKING-BELIEVABLE...what the fuck goes through Prince's mind when he decides to release something? An 80 minute DVD? What's the fucking point? Why would anyone as talented as him release a concert without all the songs performed that night? Why not just put a complete setlist together from several shows if you're not happy with every performance at one stop?

Truly amazing...and I thought the Rave 2000 disc was bad...this is a new low point. I'm glad some of you can rationalize it by saying "we get 'Pass The Peas' and 'Whole Lotta Love'." Go on and keep living your dream. You all know deep down that this is a shit release...don't worry...the NPGMC moderators won't come in here and belittle you. Here's what we (don't) get:

- No piano medley
- No "Rainbow Children"...the title track to his last ACTUAL album
- No encore
- No aftershow footage

First we get a 60 minute instrumental disc that...despite the ass-kissers' best spin control...is average at BEST. Prince is not a jazz musician...you don't just decide one day that you're going "jazz." Listening to NEWS, you can tell it's not completely made up on the spot, and there are a lot of overdubs as well. Yet it's advertised as "live" and "impromptu" jazz. Right.

Now comes this shit DVD. He is completely in his own world at this point. Does he not pay attention at all to what other artists give their fans? Metallica, Bowie, Pearl Jam, Dave Matthews...they make Prince look like he's in the Stone Age. Not once has he ever thanked the fans for sticking by him all these years of fucked-up behavior. He takes all of us for granted...don't think for one second that Prince loses sleep over whether you'll still be his fan in the morning. He has enough of us brainwashed to live the rest of his life comfortably.

His music club is a joke. His music is well on its way to becoming a joke. And the way he treats his fans is just plain sad. I can't believe after all these years of fuck ups, he still can't get anything right. The latest examples:

- The "launch" of the new website that crashed first thing
- The NEWS backorder fiasco
- The "no bad-mouthing Prince" message board

And before someone hits me with a "stop being a pessimist" or "just don't be a fan anymore" reply...I'm a realist. And the reality is Prince is spoiled prick who moonlights as a musical genius. Nothing is EVER his fault...it's always someone else who messed things up for him...WB, Arista, Wendy & Lisa, etc.

And sometimes I wish I could stop being a fan, but when something has been in your life for so long...almost 20 years now...it's just not that simple. Maybe one day I will have had enough...but as long as he's touring and making music, something inside of me still wants to give him the benefit of the doubt. He's still an undeniable talent...and in today's music world that's something that is still worth supporting...even with the drawbacks.

So...Prince...thank you once again for fucking us over. I'm so glad I didn't pay $25 to be shit on again...I'll take that money and buy the Tokyo DVD instead.

Peace,

Matthew

the box set should have come with a dvd of all of those performances anyway. but since it DIDN'T, some of us were hoping that this release would include most of these songs as well as others...i mean, he played for what...3 hours plus an aftershow?

and one of the moderators at the club confirmed that the DVD was already finished and produced back in april..so the version i saw was the finished product.

and about the "shakiness" of the camera: I'm sure you`ve seen a rough cut version and not the finished product. i mean postproduction happens every day, you know... wink

First of all, I will wait until NPG says what the tracklist is. Remember allthe bogus tracklists that preceded Rave and every CD release since Emancipation? Still cant understand all the specualtion about what will be on a new release.

Secondly, this thing will rock if the Pop Life clip is any indication. Just having 1+1+1is3 with the Love Rollercoaster breaks is enough too make this thing STANK!

What an NPG waste. Shame.

This is the smartest thing said here so far. Is it disappointing that some of the songs of the songs I personally like aren't here, sure. It's still 80 minutes more than I have right now. No matter what he releases there will always be "He should've released ___ instead..."

To me it looks like some concessions were made to keep it under $20 and to appeal to the casual fan who could care less about an extended interviewwith Renato Neto. Whatever, I'll just wait to actually see the DVD before I give it a review. But that's just me, what do I know.

Peace,

Matthew

O.K., I start to believe that there are only 14 tracks and I start to believe the talk about the bad camera work.

And I start to believe that Prince really misses a big chance AGAIN.

Why no professional camera team ? Why not a complete gig ?
that's what I thought for a longtime , isn't it pathetic that his concert are always videotaped by 3 members of his crew? when you think of the perfection of the Parade Birthday video...

So...Prince...thank you once again for fucking us over. I'm so glad I didn't pay $25 to be shit on again...I'll take that money and buy the Tokyo DVD instead.
