New Cover Version and possible appearance at Glastonbury

UK Music magazine Muzik has Prince on the cover and an article on him
under their Heroes of Dance music section, This come with a cover cd
where british dance group Bent do a cover version of Dirty Mind.

Also the NME has an article on the Glastonbury festival for 2003 and says that it is rumoured that Prince is going to be asked to headline
the show on the Sunday night.

Brilliant though it would be, somehow I can't see him doing it. Especially not as a headliner. Wasn't there a rumour than Madonna had been asked to headline it as well?

I don't think Glastonbury would have the back-stage facilities that P is accustomed to.
Could u imagine him having to use a muddy, out-side toilet!!??

HAHHAHAHAHAHAH!

Prince at Glastonbury would be PERFECT!

After taking 2 friends who have never seen him live B4 to see ONA they both agreed he would be perfect for the Sunday slot!

I hope the rumour is true and he accepts. He would reach such a wide audience and (like Bowie) prove to the masses just how important he still is!

Fingers crossed!

OMG! If this is true, :I: will possibly be playing across the field from him... hopefully :I: won't have a gig until the late morn again so :I: will creep backstage at the pyramid stage (which I presume this is where he'll B!)...

but, the facilities on that stage are really impressive! they even have toilet roll! A Novelty at Glastonbury for real!

They have clean and well accomodated trailers for the artists. only found this out when I was with Rod Stewarts backing band...

Prince will love the atmosphere if nothing else!

hi every1
just wanted to say that its great that prince is thinking of marketing himself again to the masses, it must be hard to keep up that hair-do.

i hope he knows what he's letting himself in for, and i don't mean the toilet facilities. if he keeps it on the jazz tip i think he'll do fine.
he can do well to escape the fams requests of goldens rare1s as it would be wasted on the general glastocrowd ( it ain't what it used to be)

as far as the cover syndrome, there was only ever one cover that worked for me and that was tlc, If I was your girlfriend cause they sang it pure n sweet n simple.

good luck prince if you do G and loads of luck to the fams who do go!

Not sure if any of you have noticed but Glastonbury was REFUSED a license in December '02. They are reapplying in February for the licence but it isn't very hopeful!!!

Oh wow, oh my God, knees are a-tremblin'!!! Please, please Prince do this gig!!! I have been dreaming of Prince playing Glastonbury since my very first Glastonbury over a decade ago! It is one of the very best festivals of music and arts on the planet and is quite unique - anyone who has been will know exactly what I am talking about!

Like Dre, I have had the privelege of playing there myself (sorry if that makes me a bore, Starbass!) and the vibe there is just incredible.

Prince would be very well appreciated by the crowds there, especially with his current, jazzy sound. I have seen most of my favourite acts at Glasto and there have been many, many great names and superstars who have put in amazing performances over the years - Glastonbury just seems to bring out the best of the artists that play there.

And smoo - don't worry about the licence refusal - it happens every year!! Mendip council like it to be known that they oppose the festival prior to the event, but the rustling of fingers thumbing through the money that the event brings to the area seems to drown out those disapproving voices afterwards!!
...we have only scratched the surface of what the mind can do...

Whilst I might be tempted to go there to see Prince perform, I would really go fearing the worst. In my opinion, the larger the venue, the less enjoyable the experience - although I know that many people love the Glastonbury 'vibe' (when it doesn't become a mud bath)

And - it's going to be real fun if there is an NPGMC for 2003, giving Members access to an exclusive soundcheck and finding a suitable location close by for the Aftershow smile

To be treated with a pinch of salt at this stage, I think.
ALT+PLS+RTN: Pure as a pane of ice. It's a gift.

Oh come on !!!

As if.

Any UK people should know what Glastonbury is about , the true vibe is drugs , travellers , and then music.

There is absolutely no way Prince would play to an audience as unpredictable as that , especially Sunday night when only the hardcore are left - you may recall that the more commercial and (for Glastonbury - alternative !) appear on Saturday night when there is a slightly more yuppie vibe.
(eg) The Pet Shop Boys at the one before last.

He is too uncompromising to play a set for the masses at the best of times let alone play one for an unpredictable crowd with a certainty of unpredictable weather.

TRC - the vibe you speak of is mainly dead now, something left back in the 80's! Have you not been in some time?

There are still pockets of the original vibe left, mainly concentrated around the fabulous Avalon and Green fields, but the rest has become that bit more commercial (though, nowhere near approaching any of the other festivals - Glastonbury remains closest to the original spirit and intent of the festival).

I don't see how any of this makes Glasto crowds un-predictable and most of the Sunday closers have been commercial (in Glasto terms) artists - David Bowie, Rod Stewart, The Cure - all have played Sunday. If the Rev Al Greene can play there (and he did a wonderful set on the Jazz stage) I'm sure Prince can!

SaxJedi - no, not a member, as such!! I session percussion for them, mainly playing live UK gigs. In fact, if anyone is in the London area, there is an "alternative" Ozric's gig happening on the 26th January. Featuring the Ozrics, plus myself and a few ethnic-percussionists (Dhurbarkas, Djembes, Tablas, Clay Pots etc) and Harry Waters (son of Roger Waters, of course, of Pink Floyd fame) on keys! Don't expect anything like the usual Ozrics gig, this is more like an unplugged version with a few Ozrics covers, some Faruk covers (anyone hear know Faruk? Wonderful stuff) and plenty of original, acoustic numbers. ITS FREE!! So come one, come all! Org note me for further details...

Eh? I've been 2 the last 7 Glastonburys. Yuppie night? In recent years at has got more commercial, but not just on a Saturday. In my experiance the vast majority are still there on Sunday and the 'drug' thang is there if u want it but 2 me it's just 1 big party. Alternative on Saturday night??? 2000 it was Travis, 2002 Stereophonics! There about as alternative as Micheal Bolton. The atmosphere and music go hand in hand. If any1 thinks about about drugs first and foremost they are very sad indeed!

I do agree with u that (although I would like him 2) I do not think it will be Prince's cup of tea, but that's a shame coz I reckon he could triumph just as Bowie did!

Ha! I also find it amusing as to how many people refer to Glastonbury's "unpredicatble weather" and "mud-baths".

Out of 27 Glastonburys, only FIVE have been wet, 3 of them seriously wet and leading to the mud-baths! The main thing is, the 3 major wet festivals were quite recent - 1985 was the first (hence the "I survived '85 t-shirts) and both '97 and '98 were quite bad - apart from that, the weather has always been fair to great ('95 it was 98 degrees all weekend!!). Considering the UK's weather in general, on in five Glastonbury's being wet ain't bad!!!
