Andre Cymone interview in The Quietus (on Prince and 1969)

Hello Org-ers. Hope you enjoy this one. Here's the cut-and-paste blurb...
Two years ago tomorrow, PRINCE passed away. His former bassist, housemate and childhood best friend ANDRE CYMONE shared his memories of the Minneapolis genius with me in a revealing interview for The Quietus, as well as discussing his own latest album 1969.

So this genius & self proclaimed inspiration for Prince turns out another average abum. Add him to the list of parasites who appeared after P's transition..who brag about their influence on P & their own ability...yet deliver shit songs.

Appreciate he was like a bro' 2 P...but this article makes me sick.

So why dosen't he own a Paisley Park? Prince gave them all a chance to be great and they need to acknowledge that. They all " had the stage" at one time.

Uh, cos he wasn't Prince, didn't want what Prince had and, well, you could argue its turned out better for him couldn't you? If you're trying to argue that sales are a measure of talent or artistry, well... that doesn't even bear out in Prince's career.

What the hell are you talking about?

The only reason anybody knows who Andre is because of Prince. Andre isn't even relevant. He's not made much of himself after Prince.

True, but it's not like he was ever given the chance to have it otherwise. Who knows what his career might have been if he had never met Prince. You don't have to be a Prince level of success to make interesting music.

Happy, healthy, ALIVE, and still doing what he loves. He seems good to me.

Jody Watley and Andre Cymone might disagree.

You know what question I would like to ask Andre? What’s the real story of Prince’s Hohner guitar? I don’t play in a band but I do fool around with guitars and my son plays. We’re always talking about new gear and get equally excited when one of our friends gets a new guitar. I would like to know if Andre remembers when he first saw the guitar, or was he with Prince when he bought it? He had to have been excited about a new guitar in the band since those were the days when they played smaller venues and I’m sure they only had a limited number of instruments.
The same questions I guess could be answered by Dez. I wish somebody would tell the true story of the Hohner. I have been following that guitar for years, collecting pictures and such. I know they’re replicas that we’re built but I want to know about the real one, Prince’s favorite guitar.

I like Andre Cymone. His last two albums have veered too much into the "bland rock" category for my liking but his 80s stuff is really good. I'd like him to do a new funky solo album or perhaps even sing lead vocals on a new Revolution album.
